It was just awful. I guess it has been too long since I watched a HS basketball game. The game was sloppy and mistake prone and it made everyone look bad.

The opponent was a 5A Ponca City squad. Lattin's team won pretty easy. The final margin was 12. But, they were up 19 with 3/4 minutes left. I wasn't counting Lattin's production as they went along. I'll give it my best guess.

He scored mayby 10/12 pts. The rebounds were probably 8/10. He added 3/4 blocks and 3/4 steals. Mayby someone can find his stats posted somewhere and check my memory. There is a chance the numbers are a little better than I am remembering.

They ran 4 guards and Lattin. They showed no interest in ever throwing him the ball. The very few times one of the guards threw it inside, Lattin was way too quick to pass it back out. I don't recall him ever once showing a post move.

He has some profound weaknesses. He is not nearly strong enough. He doesn't work nearly hard enough. A culture shock of great magnitude is in store for him. What he is getting now is too easy for him and it shows. He badly needs some 1st class coaching.

The kid is pretty athletic. Not as much as I had hoped. I was thinking maybe a young M'Baye. He is currently short of that. He can run the floor pretty well. He took two outside shots and hit them both and looked pretty good doing it. It looks like he will be able to stretch defenses some. He is a willing defender and rebounder. I left with the impression that he sees the court well and passes the ball pretty good.

It has been so long that I really don't know what a HS player is suppose to look like. But, my memory is telling me that a good one should have looked better than Lattin did today. He wasn't dominating in any manner. He was getting his fair share of what was available today.

Interesting. I suspect, like most college freshmen, he has good games and bad games. After what Lon and Co have been able to do with this first couple of recruiting classes, I bet we can coach him up!

Not what I wanted to hear, Gary. But I trust your keen eye and appreciate your honest appraisal of what you saw. Clearly, Khadeem has a ways to go to have the impact I was hoping for next season. Sounds like he needs good coaching as well as better competition to bring out the best in him.

Thanks for the report Gary! Do you know who his team plays next?

Yes. The winner of the Flower Mound Tx. vs NW Classen game at 5:30 tomorrow.

Without meaning to, I sat right in front of coaches Kruger and Crutchfield. My thoughts are in line with what Gary stated. Not an impressive performance to say the least. From what coaches were saying it was definitely not one of the better games they had seen him play. He was tentative and they felt he might have been a little nervous. Please understand guys. There is a lot to work with but he and they have a lot of work to do. I see him contributing next season but I can't imagine the kid I saw tonight starting alongside The Banger.

Also, as has been stated many times, we are very lucky to have some very real gentlemen for our basketball coaching staff. Friendly and engaging, they visited with my boys and me about Khadeem and the team. Very impressive as always.

Ponca City is not a good team. We know from watching last night's game against TCU that even good players play down to the competition sometimes. It will be interesting to see if his performance improves against a better team. Hope you and KBaden, or someone, can attend and give us another report.

Much appreciated, guys!

Thanks for the report. I hope it was a fluke game. I guess on a positive note at least he seems willing to fit into a team concept.

I'm kind of excited to watch him tomorrow, might even leave work a little early to make sure I make it to Moore by tip

I think it's big kids in high school. I've been keeping an eye on the Mustang kids. Long still isn't in basketball shape, but is getting there. Austin Meyer is playing similar to how you describe Lattin. Looks tentative and really it's hard to blame big kids in high school. The refs allow smaller kids to maul them and then call touch fouls and offensive fouls on them when they try to play physical.

Not to worry. This report from Gary is exactly what should have been expected based on him averaging 6-5 in AAU, a coaching telling Gary he would do nothing until Yo Yo put 20 Lbs on him, & the tape from his AAU summer.

He dropped from a top 25 recruit to a top 125 recruit over the past couple years for a reason. He's still 6'9" with nice agility and a nice stroke. He needs work. We've got plenty of time to work him. If he could be a nice role player in Buddy/Cousins/Spangler senior year that's great.

If you are going to use things that I have said to support your case, try not to leave out some important parts.

1. He did score 13 pts. in 30 min. on the floor against 5A competition. Ponca City is not very good. But, they are a far cry from no competition. His team mates did not help him. Time after time they came down the floor and jacked up 3's and he never got a touch. When he had the ball in a position to score, he usually did.

2. He does need to layer on 20 lbs. of muscle. He will be on campus in May and after 6 months of lifting and drinking protein shakes the 20 lbs. will be there before the 1st tip.

3. He is in desperate need of coaching. He has had none. He will get plenty before the 1st tip.

4. I'm not qualified to evaluate talent for the OU basketball team. I don't know what a still developing big is suppose to look like as a HS senior.

If he is agile and has good stroke, he will be fine. Will take a year or two, but shouldn't have much of a problem.

Ponca city isn't great. But they pounded the #3 5a bishop McGunises a few weeks ago.
