Heck...hire Bob Hoffman before hiring Smart, Martin, ODU guy, etc.

We know Hoffman can coach.

I like Marshall and Jones because while they are mid major guys they both have long track records of sustained success.

UNT finished 8-8 in the Sun Belt this year. I've also heard Jones is a Dale Brown disciple.

For those of you too young to remember, Dale Brown was a great recruiter but a horrible coach. He had more talent than anybody a lot of years and never won a darn thing.

No thanks on Jones.

Wow, Dale Brown. There's a name I haven't heard in awhile. Is he available? Or even alive?

you guys are killing me with this revisionist history

I don't know...LSU either forced him out or he retired when they hired Brady.

Brown was always on thin ice because even LSU fans knew he had more talent than the results they were getting. But somehow he hung on for a long time.

I read on another board that in Bobby Knight's book, he mentions when IU was playing LSU in the NCAA tournament and LSU had a 10 point lead with a minute left in the game. Knight didn't think they had a chance until he looked down the court and remembered Dale Brown was coaching LSU, and then he knew they had a chance. IU went on to win and won the NC. I believe this was 87 when Smart hit the winning jumper for IU over the Cuse and Seikaly. They beat LSU that year and LSU had the entire team returning from the previous year that beat Eddie Sutton and UK with the two 7 footers to advance LSU to the final 4.

In fact, he had Shaq, Stanley Roberts (another 7 footer), and Chris Jackson on the same team and I don't think they even advanced to the sweet 16. They were loaded with talent. L-O-A-D-E-D

So now Pastner is the popular choice? Cross him off.

Are you saying I'm wrong?

Brown was a horrible X's and O's coach. Horrible.

All anyone wants to talk about is not making it far in the tourney with Chris Jackson and Shaq...forgetting all about the 79, 80, and 81(FF) teams, losing 7 times to the eventual NCAA champion, and the '86(FF).

In fact, that stupid "freak defense" he devised that catapulted the 86 team to the FF (as an 11 seed mind you) should be enough to show anyone he knew his X's and O's.

Johnny Jones has won just under 56% of his games over a decade plus at UNT and Memphis. NO THANK YOU!

I'm at the point now where if we can't get Buzz I'd just say to hell with it and hire Evans. Flame me up, guys.

And I'm absolutely shocked Tech got Gillispie for only 800k. Wow.

****.

I know it was mentioned before but 8-8 and 22-11 in the Sunbelt Conference. 4th place finish in Sun Belt "West" (they have separate divisions ?!)

We have to be able to do better then that, could care less about Dale Brown or whatever.

.

The more I think about it, I think I agree with you.

mods please change my vote

Why are people in favor of Evans?

I MIGHT be in favor of Evans if he had D1 coaching experience. Head coach or assistant. If he really wanted to coach at OU, looks like to me he would have left to coach as an assistant and eventually head coach and gain that experience. For us to choose someone from a DII school, he'd have to have multiple, multiple DII championships and he has none.
