Ms. Meeks,
I'm sure Coach gasso is glad to get a new surface on the softball field, however, very likely any deficiencies in the field could likely been remedied by the excellent grounds crews the university employs.
The attention to the filed shouldnt excuse the poor to no coverage of the softball team. Considering the team's outstanding record, national standing, conference championships and Top Ten national ranking, to so totally ignore their fall games amounts to what appears to be a deliberate slap at the program. The exploding popularity if the sport and of this team in particular has obviously entirely escaped the attention of the athletic administration. An example of the administration's policy of ignoring the softball team: the team played a double header against a D1 team, Arkansas U., last weekend. There was no coverage of the event. None. Nada. Zero. Zip. Twitter failed and so did the university. The women's exhibition basketball game merits television coverage and the university cant even provide a cub reporter for softball?
For the benefit of a team that works very, very hard to maintain acknowledged excellence, please throw them a crumb.
Disgusted fan,

Is the fall/winter softball season more of a "tune up" than anything else? I've never understood that.

This thread was moved over here at the OP's request.

Exhibitions or not, everything I said above remains true. The women's basketball team exhibition game is being televised on Fox and Oklahoma University cant even provide reportage on softball games?

Fall baseball and softball games have traditionally never been covered much. It's almost like summer league NBA. At least in basketball, the "exhibition season" ties right into the regular season.

I drive past Cameron University's baseball field on the way home from work every day. I see them playing someone - probably Western Oklahoma State JC (Altus). Those games are really more like scrimmages, and I also know that OU baseball plays some JC's in the fall and doesn't even keep stats for them. There aren't any "exhibition" college baseball games in the spring, so these fall games are probably even more like practices than "games."
