Life after Aaryn

In my opinion it is EXTREMELY hard to make a living driving to the rim in D-1 basketball unless you have blazing speed like DRob has. Defenders are just too quick. If Maddie can improve her outside shooting and, as Roc said, find open players with sharp passing skills, I will be happy.
I think you missed the point. She is that quick. It just doesn't look it. Two steps covering twenty feet in one second is the same as four steps covering twenty feet in one second. It just looks different.

I respectfully disagree. IMO, she is no where near DRob in quickness and speed.

Maybe Manning won't go off for 30plus points but the kid can score the ball, I was excited for her starting and I thought she was on her way to being our 2nd leading scorer, ( her numbers went up by a point each game she started in/ got decent minutes. But all that said I don't think Manning will be the scoring guard that Aaryn is. I also wonder where she will be playing most of her minutes next year, at lead guard or on the wing, I've been seeing Sherri move Morgan off the ball some.

I hadn't thought much about "Life After Aaryn," since she's just a junior.

Good question about Maddie. Morgan has played well so one one hand I would hate to see her moved; however, on the other hand Maddie needs some experience at the point too. I suspect she gets minutes at the point and at the 2/3.

Agreed. I wouldn't want Morgan moved off of the point position, unless some one comes in and is just incredible and takes it away. I love Morgan's solid play at the position. I think you are right though. Maddie will probably see the 1-2 and 3 positions. I think there will be some sets for her where she can drive to the rim or kick out. Maddie can score from a variety of positions on the floor and am looking forward to her return.

Maddie played in one game against semi-decent competition. From what I saw she certainly has some potential but that is all it is.

A freshman who had only played a few minutes started three games in Hawaii--on the road. So, Oregon wasn't stellar. Arkansas was no slouch, and Maddie had 10 points, 8 rebounds (not bad), three assists, a couple of steals, and a block. Not all that bad. Against the home team, she 12 points, 4 rebounds, and a couple of steals. She shot 13 for 19 from the field in three games. That's not all that bad.

The key was that she was never actually stopped. When she decided to drive to the basket, she did. Nobody stopped her. She also made the layup. When she took a short jumper, nobody was anywhere near her level. She was six inches to a foot over everyone else. When you watched what she did, you wondered what she might have done if she had gone out to score or hog the ball.

She's not short like most of our ball-handlers. She gets up higher than anyone on the court. She seems to have good body control, good finishing ability. She also just took the ball away from some folks. She does have long arms.

Since nobody actually stopped her, what, exactly, is her upside? She takes a shorter player inside and runs by a taller player (even some shorter players). Meanwhile, Norm, are you sure DRob was faster from the top of the key to the basket? Maddie explodes in two steps.

DRob played against the best and beat them all and she is still getting to the rim against WNBA competition. Maddie is not that quick or fast in my opinion.

The only other player that I can think of that had DRob's speed was Maria Villarroel. Why are we focusing on one trait?
