Lon’s staff

You don’t think assistant coaches are important?

I think they are important but if they aren't living up to Lon's expectations, he would be taking over more of their roles. In other words, they will coach the kids how Lon wants them coached.

I have said all year that Lon's assistants are just drawing a pay check, Lon could have done so much better than his son and whom ever that other guy is, we are not into ball games as in the past.

I love my sons but there is no way I would hire them to be federal agents, lol, by the way they are firemen but you get the point.

Does anyone else chuckle a little when they see this thread title?

Immature humor is about all I can look forward to this year

I couldn’t agree more! This article is a must read for anyone who doesn’t believe the assistants are vitally important to a team’s success. It also confirms what I have been saying for sometime. The assistants at most schools are responsible for teaching and coaching defense, something that seems to be woefully absent on OU’s coaching staff this season.

If Lon failed to add an assistant to his staff who is well qualified to coach defense, that’s on him. That’s like hiring a DC in football who doesn’t have a clue how to teach, coach or motivate the players. Michigan’s coach made the right decision. He hired an assistant who is good at coaching defense.

OU can have any assistant coaches they want, but as long as they insist on switching absolutely everything, they'll never be a great defensive team. I don't know if that comes from an assistant or from Kruger himself but Kruger certainly has the ability to override it. That's a decision that should never have been made and should've been changed a long time ago.

I believe it comes from Kruger, because we've always done it, and his old teams used to as well. FWIW, the NBA switches on a lot of things as well, so it would make sense that it comes from Kruger.

Honestly, the assistant thing to me is has more to do with the fact that this is only their 2nd year together. Kruger brought Henson and Hill from UNLV to OU with him. So they had a lot of time under their belt doing things how Kruger wanted. His son and Hartman are having to learn it. And Crutch never did a ton of coaching before these last 2 years, as he was mainly our recruiting guy. So every assistant is learning a new role
