Lon Kruger to be named OU coach

I'm in the two-run double camp. I'm not bubbling over at the idea of hiring Kruger, but I think he could get us back to where we belong, or very close to it, so I can certainly get behind him.

I'm around that as well... This isn't a home run hire, but OU wasn't going to get a home run hire in the first place.

This is about as good as OU was going to get... The guy's won everywhere in college, and turned around UNLV only a few years ago.

I think Joe C. got the right guy.

It will be funny when in two years we see OU going to the NCAA tournament and everyone remembers how we went through all this bull**** for two years.

he's never gone anywhere and not won. would be a great hire. no good, great.

Check out his record at Florida,

his record at Illinois isn't that impressive either.

Oh well, thats a long time ago, maybe he's improved. Gotta hope he recruit and get us back to where we belong.

We probably only had one real turn down. Buzz Williams. I don't think we seriously offered Weber or Pastner.

Some of you are so woefully uninformed about Kruger's resume that it is embarrassing.

Given the circumstances & endless stream of turndowns

this is a "Triple"

I think "triple" is a good analogy, too.

Who else turned down the position though? I think Buzz was the only one that definitively turned it down.

Check out his record at Florida

Huh? He completely turned around the Florida program. Not to mention, he lead them to their first Final 4, ever.

I think using his tenure at Florida as a detraction against him is a little ill-informed.

@8NewsNOW's Chris Maathuis says he talked to Lon Kruger and he told him he is staying at UNLV.

As for someone who has gone on record in support of Evans, this could be a solid hire and I for one would be happy! It is like a HOMERUN in the All Star Homerun Derby (you know what I mean!), that is how I would translate it! If this goes down, nice job Joe C.!

Check out Florida's record before he took over. Check out the fact Florida was known as the KSU of SEC basketball when they paid Kruger a HUGE contract to turn around their program.

Check Illinois was on probation when he took over and he landed the Illinois POY 3 years in a row. The first Big 10 coach to ever pull that off. Not just first Illinois coach, first Big 10 coach.

Its just hard for me to believe that a great coach who is 58 would be at UNLV. Has he ever had any great teams?
