Longar Longar was suspended 2 games

Riley was suspended by NCAA for the next game which was for the first game played the following year. Griner will not play inthe next game. Texas. Baylor suspended her for the first game in Big 12 tourn. The Big 12 hasn't acted yet.

No, you're wrong. Riley was suspended for the next NCAA tourney game. Which will be this year I believe.

I honestly don't think Longar intended to hurt the Tech player....but the consequences of his elbow did warrant a suspension (but Knight calling it the dirtiest play he ever saw on a basketball court and that Longar should be suspended for the year was laughable).

Whereas Griner's intent was to cause harm....it wasn't like there was a scrum for the ball on the court and she punched the Tech player. The Tech player actually walked away and Griner chased after her and sucker punched her in the face. 2 games is a joke IMO

You have to be kidding me. The officials at the game did not even eject Longar. Regardless, even if you think Longar's elbow merits two games it is illogical in my opinion to assert a blindside punch is the same thing as an elbow in the flow of the game. I think these incidents of punches should result in a season suspension or darn close to it.

I wasn't trying to compare Griner's punch to Longar's elbow. They are totally different, I just linked them in terms of their severity compared to other situations.

I totally agree that Griner should have a long suspension. And I think Longar's suspension was completely appropriate. The fact that the game officials screwed up shouldn't change anything.

I don't think Longar intended to hurt the guy but he definitely intended to hit him and I don't think he realized how close the guy was to him. An elbow like that is absolutely devastating and way more dangerous than most punches typically thrown in a basketball fight. Just ask UFC guys about elbows.

Ask Rudy T about how devastating a punch thrown in a basketball game can be....

When Longar did that, I got excited because he was such a soft player up until that point. That whole thing in my opinion made him softer than he originally was.

I heard from someone in Texas that Griner did the same thing in a high school game (after she was fouled and didn't appreciate being fouled)....so this incident isn't so shocking. The punishment is a little surprising (thought she should get more games but not a bunch more)....they should have a preset determination of games for something like that....but I also blame Baylor and their staff for not imposing a harsher penalty, particularly since they are a 'Baptist' school.....nice message there.

you bring up some interesting points. If there is a repeated pattern of this behavior, then it has to be dealt with more harshly. If Griner has been a model citizen and just lost her composure in the heat of battle, then you deal with it another way.

To say a "Baptist" school should deal with this type of behavior in a harsher way is misguided in my view. A wise spiritual mentor of mine used to always say, "We are far worse than we would ever admit. And God is far more graceful than we would ever give Him credit for."

Those who have come to an understanding that given the right circumstances, we could make all kinds of foolish, regrettable decisions... helps us show grace to those who mess up and seek genuine repentance.

I think the pattern of behavior matters here.

A great point was made on the radio today about how Blake Griffin responded to much worse treatment than Griner has ever faced. Griffin was getting absolutely abused and never responded at all. It was absoultely amazing.
