You have to be kidding me. The officials at the game did not even eject Longar. Regardless, even if you think Longar's elbow merits two games it is illogical in my opinion to assert a blindside punch is the same thing as an elbow in the flow of the game. I think these incidents of punches should result in a season suspension or darn close to it.
I wasn't trying to compare Griner's punch to Longar's elbow. They are totally different, I just linked them in terms of their severity compared to other situations.
I totally agree that Griner should have a long suspension. And I think Longar's suspension was completely appropriate. The fact that the game officials screwed up shouldn't change anything.
I don't think Longar intended to hurt the guy but he definitely intended to hit him and I don't think he realized how close the guy was to him. An elbow like that is absolutely devastating and way more dangerous than most punches typically thrown in a basketball fight. Just ask UFC guys about elbows.
