OUinsider's basketball board has a story on Longar's cousin started by vbdad.

Longar's cousin is a kid for next year's class. A juco freshman right now at Indian Hills CC, where DJ Bennett came from. Name is Akolda Manyang. Click here for an earlier thread from our board about him.

Was averaging 9 points and six boards through 26 games this year per this. Also had 73 blocks in those 26 games.

Pretty good looking set of high school highlights. Looks like lots of potential there:

Hale said OU hasn't offered yet. I find that hard to believe. :facepalm

I don't think I knew Bennett was from Indian Hills. That's a historically good D1 pipeline in Iowa. Would be a great place to start an OU connection.

Why?

That recruiting class will be as small as 2-3 kids. And I still think guards will be the focus. We'd rather have Trier, Shake, Grandstaff, and a host of others over LL's cousin. There are bigs we are after that we'd rather have over LL's cousin.

At most, unless there is some roster shake up, I think we take one post in that class. LK can afford to wait on a JUCO guy like that. He is probably a Plan C type, at best.

JMO.

Why? Because athletic 7 footers with long arms don't come along too often.

Having said that, I see your point about a limited number of ships and a need for guards and wings in that class. I never really gave that much thought.

And athletic 7 footers with long arms should probably do better than 9 points, 6 rebounds and 2.8 blocks/game in a very depleted JUCO system.

Those show some potential as a freshman, but we have seen how few JUCO guys can really come to D1 and make an impact anymore, as the ranks just aren't what they were when Kelvin was recruiting out of them.

I think you continue to recruit him and keep contact, and see what he can do with another summer of training and coaching, but he needs to be dominating that level if he wants to come into the Big 12 and be anything more than DJ Bennett. (averaged 7.2 pts and 4.7 rebounds, and 1.7 blks/game as a sophomore at Indian Hills).

He's definitely bigger, and as I said you can see potential, but this team is on an upward tick. We will have a very good squad next year that should sit in the top 25, which puts us out there quite a bit. We could have a stadium announcement also adding hype to the program. That's a lot to offer some top high school kids who will want to come in and help the program for 4 years instead of 2, and could be a better player than this guy in his time.

He isn't a plan C player. I have no idea if we have offered but we will as will just about everybody else in the country.
