I think it's a learning process for everyone - officials, players, coaches and fans. Last night's officiating crew was very frustrating, but Gonzaga seemed to have adjusted the way they play defense less than other teams, too.

I realize it's a learning process, but they learned little before the change and now their capacity to learn may be exhausted. They were poor to (at best) middling before and I see no reason whatsoever to believe that the changes will improve their accuracy or eyesight.

I think I've read that teams regularly send clips of plays that they feel were called incorrectly to the director of officials. I suspect they are going to use up a lot of their bandwidth doing that this year.

I don't think the Zags came into the game thinking there had been any change. Their coach said their first two games had not been called this closely. They played pretty much Zag basketball, which isn't that rough, but it does call for some fighting under the basket. The officials called a lot of stuff, not all of it correctly. Since we couldn't hit free throws for most of the game, we weren't taking advantage of it and forcing them to change. Had we been shooing 75% early, we would probably have jumped out to about a ten point lead, and the Zags would probably have adjusted their style.

Historically and repeatedly some of the worst calls and refereeing (is that a word?) I have ever seen in any sport in my life have, and continue to come, from the refs in NCAA-1 Women's basketball.

Most of those calls last night were at the top of the list of BS calls. For both teams.

Big 12 has got, GOT to do something about the officiating in this league. It is absolutely horrendous. A 10 year old could do better.

My husband rendered last night's game "unwatchable" multiple times. I bribed him with a backrub after the first time he stopped watching. He stopped again with about 5 mins left (when it appeared Zaggy was going to beat us).

The NCAA and the conferences need to answer two questions when deciding what to do about officiating:

1- What is the goal in the new officiating?

2- How can we make the game better for the players and fans?

If the goal is to minimize physicality, then they need to stop calling ticky tack crap (last night there was a LOT of this).

If the goal is to increase scoring, then focus on SHOOTING fouls NEAR THE BASKET, not ticky tack crap.

If the goal is to prolong the game to make games as long as football and to ensure that basketball scoreboards will be lit up as much as high powered football offenses... gaaaaaaaag I hope not.

Attendance is down and this TICKY. TACK. CRAP. is not going to bring fans back, even if you offer them free bacon (KSU) and free beer (Louisville). They must act in the best interest of players and fans alike, or basketball might as well become an "equivalency" scholarship sport like the other non-revenues

Is ticky tack crap a gateway drug to hack and grab, or is it just incidental contact as part of a game that involves a small field of play with fast moving players?

If it's gateway to more dangerous behavior, then by all means whistle it.

If it's harmless, then stop ruining the game with your repetitive whistle stops, please.

Consider: The constant whistles did not stop the game from being physical last night. What are they trying to accomplish by calling the game this way? What is the goal? Why does it benefit players and fans?

Do we blame the Big XII for those 3 clowns last night? Did they pick the officials for this game? I don't know. They didn't look familiar to me. These are their names:

Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. I agree with the intent of what they want to do. This is the first game we've had where this many fouls were called. Thus far in our season, the fouls called have been:

OU 20, Stetson 21
OU 28, Wichita State 22
OU 23, Gonzaga 32

And, this has been the first game where so many phantom calls were made.

I don't want to complain too much, because I want the hack and slap and shove defense that teams like A&M play to stop. We will have to suffer through some games like last night before everyone, officials included, adjusts.
