Lot to clean up BUT

I was really hoping we had reached the point that we were playing for seeding and positioning from day 1. But from what I saw tonight we're not even close.
Our guard play was pathetic outside of Buddy's point total.
No leadership late and absolutely horrible perimeter defense during their run.

We've given up wide open 3's the last 2 seasons. I hoped that was a thing of the past but unfortunately I was mistaken.

Looked damn good at covering the perimeter in the half court in the first half. It can be done!

We'll see.

Guys, don't get to upset about this loss, in fact this is just what this team needs in order to get much better. they will take their mistake and make them into game winning decisions. OU played in a very tough place that packs the house every night and the home field avg was the difference. This team is going places and deep into the NCAAs.

My only wish is that OU student body would make the noise that Creighton does.

Hate the loss but love the future.

This is what's so frustrating to me. The defense in the 1st half was swarming and intense. Creighton got very few wide open looks. Then we went up by 18 and where the hell did the intensity go? Just wide ass open looks everywhere, mixed in with some tough shots that they also hit. So frustrating.

I like your optimism, BigTime, and agree there is a lot to like about this team. However, Woodard and Cousins can't both play this poorly on the same night...or we'll get a big 'L' almost every time.

I don't think they're very good, if they sniff the tournament I will be surprised. That homecourt is probably worth 5 points (maybe even 10 with those refs).

Creighton is very average. They are a bubble team at best and probably an NIT team. They simply lost too much from last year....but we couldn't take advantage of it.

I'm not about to panic about an early season game under Kruger.

If there's been one theme in Kruger's first 3 seasons, it's that his teams get CONSIDERABLY better as the season goes on, especially once we get into conference play. Remember sweating out wins against UNT and the like last season? Almost losing to Bama? UTA the year before? I truly believe that Kruger coaches the non-conference a bit like the preseason, and tries a bunch of things, and puts different things on the players.

We've got a tough 3 games coming up. But I'm confident no matter what happens in the next week or two, we will have a really good team come March.

Jordan was terrible to night but the bench was just as bad.

Lon played four members of the bench for 61 minutes. They scored only 8 points on 2-12 from the field (2 treys and 2 FT's) and had only 6 boards.
Creighton's bench had 19 points and 12 rebounds in 63 minutes.

The starters out scored their starters by 9 points in a similar number of minutes (139 vs 137). OU had 3 starters play more than 31 minutes, Creighton had 3 that played more than 35 minutes.

Jordan also got schooled by Chatman and his quickness (17 pts vs 4, 11 boards vs 4, 6 assist vs 4 and 1 TO vs 4). JW just could not get the Sooners offense into any flow.Too many hurried shots late in the clock.

Fortunately we did have 16 assist on 22 made FG's.

Did our D really play good in the first half or were they just missing shots? Defenses look a lot better when shots are not falling.

Good game, Sooners relaxed with the lead and you can't do that on the road. LK will have some great teaching points for practice tomorrow.
Agreed that Cousins and Woodard didn't play well enough to win on the road.

We returned 4 out of 5 starters, there should be no teaching needed. The returning players should have taken care of this already.

Why does this team returning 4 starters need to loose a game to learn a lesson. They should be past the learn from a loss. This game will hurt NCAA chances, if not getting in then seeding because I expect at least 2 losses in Bahamas after what I saw last night. That would make atleast 3 non con losses with a couple games that are toss ups left.

Only Booker and Walker got more then 10 minutes off the Bench. Out 2 inside guys played 6 minutes and 7 minutes and went 0-2 shooting with 3 rebounds and 2 of our teams 3 blocks. My point being that at least Lattin should have gotten some more minutes and rested Spangler and Thomas who both got over 30 minutes. And no I am not saying he is as good, I am saying the big guys need rest.

Obviously, a pretty disappointing loss. Anytime you're up 18 in the second-half you should not lose a game. No excuse. But, I think this game is just Exhibit A as to why winning on the road in college basketball is extremely difficult and should never be taken for granted. Having that been said, I think the first half performance is more indicative of what we'll see over the course of the season. This team will have an opportunity to bounce back and play/beat some really good teams starting on Sunday. We've seen enough from the core of this team to know they'll come back out with a chip on their shoulder. People who are now bullish on the rest of the season really need to pump the breaks.

I think Woodard and Cousins being in foul trouble for a majority of the game contrbuted to this. Granted, when they were in there, they didn't play particularly well. But, I'm not too concerned. We've seen these guys play lots of games, they're good players.

Some of you are acting like OU is a #1 or #2 seed come tournament time.

In both games, we clearly outplayed the other team in the first half only to play even or to get beat in the second half. We got way with it in the first game as we had a such a big lead ( second half 36-34 us) were as with a better team we did not.

Hopefully they can solve that.

What's worrisome to me is that these teams under Kruger have no killer mentality. We never blow out opponents (blow-out to me is 20+). Teams always know they have a shot to come back against us, because we will let them back in. It seems that no one on this team has that "step on their throats" mentality and the mental toughness that goes along with that.

Everyone can see that we are a talented bunch, but we still are making the mental errors that we saw last season (specifically in the NCAA first round). I couldn't believe how many times down the stretch our guys drove the baseline or in the lane only to throw it right to a defender! That is unconscionable to me especially because they were important possessions.

Solid points. There were 4-5 possession with guys getting caught in no mans land who then comitted a live ball turnover. Very frustrating!!

A little of both, maybe, but there is no doubt that our defense was really good in the first half. The best I have seen in sometime. The announcers commented on it several times in that half.

Fast forward to the second half and the reverse is true. To tell you the truth, our transition and perimeter defense was downright awful. It was the tale of two halves, or the tale of two different teams from one half to the next. Take your pick.

Give Creighton credit, they didn't give up when they were down 18 in the first half. Their crowd got into the game when their shots started to fall, and the rest is history. It's a story we saw more than once last year. Not all ended in a loss, but this team has a knack of giving up big leads to make the game close in the end. They have got to stop trying to coast to a win when they get a big lead!

I agree. It also rarely has happened that both of them have as poor of an overall game as they did at Creighton.

Isiaiah just never looked like he got into the flow of the game.
