I think he may be the most gifted player with the most upside on our roster. He's an amazing athlete and huge. His ability to move his feet and his shot is actually not bad.

This is the thing though. Last night when I was watching our game I love watching our players go crazy on the bench and watching Jamuni and James get wild. There's not one player sitting on that bench(especially last night) that didn't go absolutely insane on the last few minutes and buddy's last few crazy shots...except one...manyang.

I watched it again today because I noticed him kinda sulking on the bench last night. I remember earlier in the year when they talked about his foot getting injured and he actually thought about quitting basketball because he didn't want to deal with that and not being able to play. Manyang is the type of player that could seriously excel at the next level if he listens to the coaches and let them help him. If he had spanglers heart and his "want to" of wanting to get EVERY REBOUND manyang would be a 1st round pick...I have no doubt...but his attitude I feel like has just been in the dumps over not playing. He loves being a scorer and wants to be that rather than being what would get him to the next level. A crazy rebounder and a shot blocking force...the offensive game is there but you can't just not do your part on the defensive end and then also every time on the offensive end that you get the ball become a black hole of never seeing the ball again once it's passed into you.

I guess what I'm saying is I hope for OUs sake and more so for manyangs that he buys in...and quick. Because he's the type of player that can CHANGE a team and become a dominating force. He's just got to buy in and let Kruger and Crutch mold him into a great player.

Flame away.

I'm no NBA scout, so i can't speak on whether he can or will make it to the Association. But i agree that it seems his attitude could be better. If that's the case that is unfortunate but our team will shine with or without him. It would be to his benefit to make the most of his limited minutes and show the world ( especially scouts ) something because even in JuCO he didn't show a ton ( 8 points 5 boards ). He can't keep moving up to the next level of the ladder in the bball world ( HS, JuCo, D-1, etc ) based on rumors and potential. I do believe this is the last step of the ladder for him unless he shows something. Hopefully next year he will be able to do that.

C'mon man.

First someone tries to say Odomes isn't celebrating enough and now Manyang. Give it a rest. Sheesh.

He plays hard when he is the game. I have no idea what you two are talking about...

He is just a step slow to me. Not an effort thing at all.

My main point BigTime was at some point in time he is going to have to show something. It's just like a 9 to 5, you don't show anything working at the bottom of the chain you aren't getting moved any higher. He isn't making the League unless he starts getting minutes and producing. The league does draft on potential more than any other singular factor, but he has to show a skill set that can be built upon.

he is a quiet kid.. quit making up drama.

He's happy and he loves the other guys.

Think you're taking It a little too hard BT haha. I'm just saying he seems to be sulking a bit rather than cheering with the team. Makes me think he's not as happy. I mean how do you not get excited about those types of things...more then anything I'm just worried he's letting the "sitting on the bench" hurt him more then drive him. He seems to be easily swayed by obstacles in a bad way not a good way. Examples like those at Indian hills when he left the team...his foot injury...and now it just seems he's not as into being excited about winning in those huge moments as all the rest of the guys. I'm not saying he's being a bad team mate I'm just saying if he buys into what Kruger and crutch are trying to do he could become an amazing player and really be a great contributer. He can't let this lack of playing time get him down. He's only got 1 more year. Has to make it count.

I remember Hornbeak doing the same thing and it wasn't long before he transferred out.

I've notice that too with him, it just may be his personality..dunno

Right. People are trying to read an awful lot from a snapshot of a player on the bench. Maybe he was nervous as hell like me and it appeared as though he lacked excitement.

The bottom line is that none of us can tell anything from looking at a photo or a 1 second snippet of anyone. Let's analyze what we can realistically analyze and stop trying to psychoanalyze 19 and 20 year Olds from a photo.

My understanding is they are still concerned about the foot. Resulting in keeping his minutes down now so he may be available latter in the season when it matters more.

I'm the exact opposite of most talented man argument . His feet are horrible and for a big guy that's everything . He has lead feet. To me the only thing going for him is that he's 7 ft tall.

I will agree with his attitude , seems like he didn't have the best . Always crying about every foul , when most of the time they are obvious because he cant move his feet and is always behind the play .
It's not that he's just quiet , cousins is quite and he's a great team player , might player harder on each side of the ball then anyone we have .

I am really not seeing what you guys are talking about. Not saying you're wrong - I have no inside info - but I'm not seeing any attitude or effort issues. Just looks slow to me. He does complain about calls...

Kruger wouldn't be playing him if he had an attitude problem.

People are wired differently. I wouldn't read too much into it.

It may be partially attitude, but he is getting PT and not really contributing. He has some skills, but is either a half step slow or does not have the IQ to really be a productive player. If he were really big time he would have had a lot more stats coming out of JUCO.

working with kids from Africa...like they actually have LIVED there...lol...anyways, most are very quiet.

Unfortunately I don't agree about his talent....which is understandable, I believe he hasn't been playing bball since he was a kid...right?

I think his footwork and post moves are not that great. He rarely goes hard to the bucket...doesn't have a sky-hook...I'll pull for him, but I think it just more about talent, "smoothness", than attitude.

Thinking someone may transfer at season's end has more to do with human nature than fans being cynical. We've lost someone through attrition almost every year since the '80s. If we start with the Billy Tubbs era in 1980, I would guess we've lost 40-45 players through transferring, getting booted or becoming academically ineligible in the previous 35 years. As a result, we're probably conditioned to believe someone will leave this year as well. Who do you look for? Well, someone who doesn't appear to be happy would be a reasonable start. I hope it all works out at OU for Manyang. Like others have pointed out, his lack of a "rah rah" attitude may very well just be his demeanor...no big deal...we'll find out for sure at season's end.
