Brandon Garrison

It's been better, but behind. That's the bottom line.

And as a coach, what are you going to say? You're not going to trash your bosses and donors. You're going to TRY to motivate them.
If you come out and say "our NIL wasn't good but we are where we can compete now" and it's not true, then your are setting yourself up to be blamed. I'm just going by what Moser himself said before this year and during his post selection whine conference last year that NIL was a problem but it's not now. If that's not true, no coach would say it is. I'm not saying our NIL is as much as others, but the coach himself said it's adequate. So you can't come back after you lose and revise history.

did he say that before or after he lost out on garrison and several other players?

I think they really thought they were where they needed to be. Then they realized they were 2x - 3x behind where they needed to be when they lost out of Pedulla, Garrison and couldn't keep Oweh around.

Which is also alarming if the head coach doesn’t know how much is needed. And highlights the need for a GM.

With what is being done with football by having a NFL like front office feel, same can be said for the basketball teams too.
I hope Nagy helps. But three years ago, we were told Thad would be a big difference maker and look how that turned out. I realize it was a different role, but the premise is similar: people arguing that an off-field hire will provide OU with a big advantage. Nagy seems like a very good hire. I hope he can address the roster issues, get some NIL, and stick around once Brent is gone. Ultimately, you can't win with truly bad coaches.

Unfortunately for you, Mr. Brent is going to be around and win

I think Jim Nagy is a slam dunk hire for football. Football is going to get everything they need to establish a pro-style operation.

I hope they can do the same thing with basketball. We need a GM to manage recruiting, salaries, and NIL.

Care to make it interesting? I’ll be willing to bet right now that he won’t win more than 7 games next season. For a program that never lost more than two games under the previous staff, that should be a reasonable ask.

I would love for you to be right SoonerMagic, but not sure I have the same level of confidence. Just take a look at the end of the season games against Alabama and LSU. We all saw what the team was capable of against the Crimson Tide as we got the best out of the players and coaches. While it's unrealistic to expect that to have occurred every game, the fact we went from that game to how awful we played against LSU was a clear sign of a substandard coaching staff. Then in the Navy game, it looked like the team was ready to play, but could not counter-adjust once Navy made their adjustments. The year prior, they teased us with a big win over Texas followed by two quick losses to take us out of conference championship contention. I don't think it will get any better going forward, but will be ecstatic if I'm wrong.

Honestly, it shouldn’t be up to the head coach. All NIL should be organized above his head. The coaches should just tell the NIL who they want and the NIL goes and gets them. No sense in wasting time recruiting a guy if we don’t have the NIL to close the deal. The coaches should focus on coaching and NIL team should focus on recruiting and player retention.

You could be right which again shows he has no idea how to run a program in the NIL/portal era.

But the coach should at least know how they stack up compared to other programs.
