Marcus Smart is a flopping piece of dirt

I like what markel said after the game. Cobbins is gone and we need to STOP fouling. They know they are fouling, even several osu radio guys said, ou deserves to shoot more FT's OSU cant stop fouling!

Has anyone considered the possibility that our guys shot more free throws simply because OSU players committed more fouls than us?

You're preaching to the choir, I agree with you. My point is the fan reaction is predictable regardless who it is.

I think one can dissect the Smart elbow without making it about the officiating performance as a whole.

Agreed. There were a few missed calls both ways. But on the whole this was not a poorly officiated game by any means. If anything, OU was the beneficiary of some borderline calls that went our way for a change.

We shot more FTs than the opponent when playing UT, KU, ISU...

This has been an ongoing issue for osu the last several weeks....and has helped contribute to their recent struggles. Even Ford said in his post game comments that they are fouling because they are out of position and they aren't moving their feet.

Maybe so, I rarely even notice the number of fouls called in any game. All I know is that OU typically comes out on the short end, even on our home floor. Then again, perhaps it feels that way because I'm admittedly biased.

Edit to say that it's also possible the players we've got this year are better at driving with the ball to take advantage of the way the games are being called by drawing more fouls.

The one positive to OU not having a rim-protector (not that Cobbins was elite) is they have had to play with this deficiency all year. Their scheme has been based on it since practice started in October. Switching defensive scheme/rotations in order to replace someone who can alter shots is very difficult to do...especially when the competition steps up in Big XII play. Timing of the injury was huge.

I went to the game last night and thought the officiating was terrible. They completely destroyed the flow of the game with a series of crappy calls against both teams. They refused to call 2 charges on Smart where he barreled into the OU defender--Woodard who was completely stationary and Cousins who was backpedaling as fast as he could. The most egregious missed charge was on a drive by Brown later in the game and he plowed into a Sooner who was there in time with his arms straight up. Ended up being an And-1 at a crucial part of the game. I would guess at least 10 of the free throw differential of 20 happened in the last 2-3 minutes as the ags were fouling to try to catch up.

You're exactly right. It isn't so much that they lost their only rim protector, it is when they lost Cobbins. We have had all season to scheme and account for our deficiencies. People love to rip on Ford as bad coach, but in this particular instance (re the injury), I'm not sure what I would do if I was in his shoes. I would probably try and speed up the game and outscore people.

If you have Marcus Smart on your team you shouldn't be allowed to ever complain about officiating.

Agreed! Counting the number of free throw attempts and deciding that's enough to say it's a clear indicator of one-sided officiating is absurd. :facepalm

It's also almost always a given that the team playing from behind is going to commit more fouls.

If OSU fans want to be angry about the fouls they should be mad at their own players. Nash had several stupid, frustration fouls (because Spangler was giving him a spanking on the boards) that kept him on the bench.

It was pure hilarity when he was complaining Jelon used his off hand to initiating contact on a play where Murphy fouled him inside. I mean, c'mon man, you can't call a stripper a slut if you're a prostitute.
