Not a bad hire. He's in his 40s and had some good years at Alabama.

His good years were particularly impressive considering the SEC was a pretty legit conference in the early-to-mid 2000's. He improved the culture of Alabama basketball.

Its not a hire that will wow NC State fans, but I think its a solid hire.

During the press conference introducing Gottfried, Debbie Yow the NC State AD said:

“I don’t have a reputation across all men’s basketball as being difficult to work with. I have a reputation of not getting along with Gary Williams, who tried to sabotage the search. Come on. We all know that. So whatever,” Yow said. “It’s Gary Williams doing his thing, so whatever.”

Yow went on to say that “someone will be writing about it nationally.”

The athletics director looked tense through the whole situation and I’m sure more information will come out in the following days. Near the end of the conference a reporter asked Yow if she thought of taking any legal action against Williams.

“I’ll give that some thought,” Yow said. “I really haven’t thought about that.”

I don't know if she is right or wrong, and if she is, that's weak by Gary Williams, but it can't feel to great to be Mark Gottfried and hear your AD talk about how you were only hired because the coaching search was sabotaged.
