Marvin Johnson

If he turns out to be half as good as Anthony Bowie, I’ll be ecstatic.

Regardless, welcome aboard, Mr. Johnson!
Agree, I would take that any day. Imagine if there had been a 3 PT line when Boo was in college. Or TMac. Career scoring numbers would look a little different.

Good comparison on athleticism and build. I like what he brings to the table more than some of the other options at this spot, particularly Jaxon. And the good thing about a one year player is it gives time for Moser and the staff to spend a normal time evaluating and getting the right player coming in out of HS.

Nice close this late in the game and what a job putting a roster together and filling in the right pieces. As balanced a roster as we've had in a while.

In which universe are SEC academic standards higher than the Big 12's?

I read the Hog version of events from that link. Not sure what to believe, but hopefully he can report next week with everybody else. With 9 new guys, getting chemistry the entire summer will be optimal..

Looks great... what is funny is that I advocated recruiting him when he was at Coffeyville CC in Kansas. Better late than never.

I would have preferred more of a true guard. Somebody smaller that is a better shooter. Feels like we have that wing/SF/PF spot covered. Maybe we were out on the other guys we were chasing (specifically the kid out of UCF), but I saw that as a bigger need than what this guy offers. 4.5 turnovers per game and 31% from deep ain't great. But he's athletic and a solid enough backup playmaker, and it's only for a year, so we'll see.

There will definitely be some roster competition this year. This has to be one of the more experienced, deepest rosters we've had in some time, when you look at some of the experience/talent we're going to be bringing off the bench. Hopefully they can gel and make a little noise this season.

he is a true guard ... i agree i wish he was a better shooter ..

He wasn’t ready for the Big 12 stage at that time. He ended up at Eastern Illinois....Clearly needed to work on his game and then have an opportunity like this one where he doesn’t have to be the guy but can add some scoring here and there most likely off the bench and play solid defense. As others have mentioned, his turnovers seem to be a little alarming but in a system like he’ll be in with Moser maybe they aren’t worried about that at all.

But however many years ago coming out of CCC he wasn’t ready for OU/Big 12 play IMO.

It's semantics, but he is more of a wing.

Let me put it another way.....I was hoping for more of a traditional shooting guard type.

Yeah I agree. Seemed odd that the last few names mentioned were a PG and then this guy. Both spots that seemed to have more bodies than the SG position on paper. We’ll see how it works out but hopefully they aren’t wishing they would have held out for a guy that hit the 3 ball a little better. Maybe his 3 % was down due to having to force shots being the guy at Eastern Illinois? Maybe having other scoring options and a post player like Groves will give him more open looks and help raise his %? Maybe that’s just wishful thinking ;)

I like what I see!

i see a big time wing athlete that can also serve as a secondary ball handler and playmaker for this team ..

pretty great pick up ..

I’m not sure I’m willing to go with secondary ball handler just yet. He’s a playmaker for sure, but he had 4.5 turnovers per game against OVC defenses. He can’t be a key ball handler for us, or we’re going to struggle.

I just saw a quick highlight video/ couldn’t tell much ...
interesting to hear the OUhoops boards evals?
What player is a good comparison for him?

I see him as a taller and longer Harkless.
