Watching Butler play last night, could not help but find myself comparing Howard and Eduardo. Howard obviously has more shooting range, but just their body types, positioning and toughness look so similar. They are just grinders.

Made me remember the grit Sampson's teams had - just like Butler. They just play hard all the time! Relentless.

I don't know who OU will ultimately tab as a successor to Capel, but if they can get their kids to play as hard as the Butler kids play, we will be instantly better.

Did you mean Eduardo has more shooting range?

Re: Matt Howard = Eduardo Nareja

Eduardo was a different player. Heck he was sometimes a guard depending on who we played back then. His versatility was so big for us back then.

Re: Matt Howard = Eduardo Nareja

No - I meant Howard. He is shooting 43% from three-point range and Eduardo shot 28% for his career.

What has Howard shot for his career? He didn't even start taking any 3's until this year. Ed was a perimeter threat long before Howard became one.

I wouldn't go as far as to call him a guard. I think he played some 3 back then, but a) it wasn't where he played most of the time, and b) that was before the true 3 guard lineups started popping up.

Eddie was a PF that had range. Much like Ace. Much like Kevin Garnett. Just b/c they have a perimeter game, doesn't make them guards.

Agree 100%.

I've read several times that people were happy with the effort of the team this year. I was not. It was better than last year, sure, but they had way too many stretches where they played with little/no intensity/effort. And several announcers saw it the same way. Seemed like we had trouble putting together two good halves of effort. One or the other, we seemed to be coasting.

I didn't mean to call him a guard. But he was versatile. Usually he would defend the other teams best player, like Desmond Mason for OSU for example.

I love Matt Howard and love this Butler team in general. Extremely glad to see them making another run. I have a bad feeling about the Florida game, as I think Florida is a worse matchup for Butler than Pitt or Wisconsin...but I'm not counting out Butler at all. My bracket is busted so I'm backing them for as long as their run lasts this year.

I agree completely as well. How about the Tech game in Lubbock, for example, when even Capel said they had no intensity. I don't know the inner-workings of OU basketball program, but as a close observer, I believe Sampson and Tubbs wer better at getting more out of his players than Capel. Much of this may be related to experience and how to handle players. Billy and Kelvin both had specfic styles and recruited towards those styles. Capel had no "style" - nothing to hang his hat on, so, IMHO, his recruiting looked the same - scattered.

If 28% makes a player a perimeter threat, then OSU was one dangerous team from beyond the arc this season.

If by beyond the arc you mean in a girls pants ...

It was too easy to leave alone.

It takes a clown aggie to suggest 3 pt shooting % is the same as a "perimeter threat."

Hey! Words hurt.

Okay how about "three point threat", is that better?

Re: Matt Howard = Eduardo Nareja

It wasn't just Eddie's offense that made him a threat. He was a great, great defender.

As Hollis Price said, the single most important thing that happened to him at OU was getting to practice with Eduardo for one year.

Could you imagine having both these guys on your team? You wouldn't come up short on effort.
