Maybe Kellen would coach us

So get rid of a HOF coach in Kruger for an unproven young guy from a low end school, and pray he magically works.

Kruger is a HOF coach? Since when did they start giving spots out to average P5 coaches?

I'm all for riding out the next few years with Lon, especially on the verge of these investigations. He's clean. A very good placeholder.

Kruger has more than 600 career wins, has taken 5 teams to the NCAA tournament, and has been to 2 final 4's. Maybe you can make an argument that, compared with all other power 5 coaches, he's about average. You cannot make a cogent argument that he's only had an average career, however.

:facepalm

Kruger is a HOF coach?

Is this a serious question? I'm seriously asking. Kruger's overall record with 6 total schools is 618-393. 5 of which he has taken to the NCAA which only one of two coaches (Tubby Smith) have done. Two of those he took to the Final four. As you keep going down the list of what he has done (and how he has done it) in the college game it's easy to see why other posters keep calling him a HOF coach. He may not be at this time on paper, but will be before it's all over.

With that in mind, that doesn't change the current state of OU. Funny enough, IF OU beats ISU and then wins at least their first game of the Big 12 Tourney they will sit at 19-13 on selection sunday. If you read previous threads before the start of the season, I believe most had OU any where from 18-22 wins. Of couse with the way it started and the way Trae played, that now looks like a failure compared to what could have been. Keeping in mind that basically this same team minus Manek/Young went 11-20 last year, this has actually been a great turn around on paper. IF what everyone believed before the season and Young was set to return next season coming off maybe even 1 win in this year's NCAA tourney, it would look like this team was right where they should be after a 20-14 (1-1 in NCAA tourney) season in Young's first year.

Of course with everyone now expecting him to leave, only having 20 wins and winning one game in the NCAA tourney now looks like a failure to most and they are calling for the coach's head. Funny how quickly things turn on you. ;)

I'll admit that I don't follow the college coaching HOF well enough to know what warrants an induction, but no, I don't find Kruger's career worthy. He's never had sustained success anywhere he's been. After taking us to the Final 4, he's proceeded to crumble, which closely follows his pattern at KSU and Florida. Perhaps Kruger is worthy of HOF, but if that's the case, then just about every coach in the Big XII will likely make it if they coach long enough.

When I look around at the conference, I'm not sure where exactly Kruger ranks, but it's certainly not near the top. Ranking him at #5 (average) would be pretty generous I believe. Even TCU has a better coach, and possibly Tech. It's too early to tell on a few guys like Boynton, Beard, Prohm, and Smart, but of all the established coaches, Weber is probably the only one I'd give Kruger the nod to.

I don't personally think there should be 50 HOF coaches currently active. That's what I think it would take for him to get in. He's nowhere near the top 10-15.

Kruger has been solid if not quite good every where he has been. He makes more friends than enemies because he is all class. He was a far better athlete than his peers. And I mean far. Lon was drafted in multiple sports. He is an athletic freak of nature. I tend to think all of that combines to earn a lot of respect in his industry.

In other words it is not just his win loss record.

Everything you said is true. He's very classy, and certainly has most of the industry's respect. However, nobody is afraid of facing his team on the court.

I am simply stating why I think he is a hall of fame coach in the opinion of people that have a vote.
