Ex-UTEP big considering UK, UT?
Arnett Moultrie
It definitely was surprising news when UTEP big Arnett Moultrie announced that, rather than enter the draft (a possible move with the Miners' coaching change) or stay in El Paso, he would transfer.
Steve Jones of Cats Pause (subscription required) reports that the favorites for the 6-foot-11 soon-to-be junior are Kentucky and Texas. After failing to land either Terrence Jones or C.J. Leslie, UK was able to score transfer Eloy Vargas, a talented former-Gator big man but the 'Cats appear to still be on the lookout for bigs to fill what could be a small-ish roster in 2011 and 2012.
And that is essentially why Moultrie appears to now be a No. 1 option. The forward is a Memphis native but John Calipari passed on the passed on the prep back when he was a member of the 2008 class. However, with a definite void on the interior, UK is scrambling to land an impact interior player. While Moultrie will not suit up until 2011-12, a year off would give him more than enough time to learn UK's DDM offense.
However, Texas could definitely use Moultrie to anchor their interior. Gary Johnson returns next season but, coupled with Tristan Thompson, UT has a thin froncourt. Moultrie would be a definite plus.
