I’ll be honest, if we didn’t go 2 for 2 with those guys, the ship wouldn’t be sinking anymore it would be with the Titanic.Sorry, should have clarified. The visitors (Elvis)...Aaron Scott being the other
A guy who has never cracked double digits in a lesser league (not a bad league, by any means, but not nearly the SEC) and who is mainly just a catch-and-shoot guy can’t be your third or fourth option. That type of player, on a good roster, would be able to play a very specific role: make 40 percent of your wide open threes, and on a good team, you’d get plenty of those shots because of the talent around you. On a bad roster, you don’t get nearly as many of those looks. It’s 2024, 2-point shooting percentage is nearly irrelevant. Elvis shoots 3s well and can defend.
He’s a good pickup so long as he’s our third or fourth scoring option, which he should be if we land Pedulla and Garrison and Moore is back.
He isn't a guy you can post up regularly and throw the ball to.He is a scoring option. He can be a 10-12ppg guy all day. Is he ISO option nah. not his game.
Yep. Less open looks from 3 when the other team is going to force you off the line because you are "smaller" and struggle to finish inside the 3. Not rocket science. It's why I'd prefer he come off the bench, but I really don't see that happening. He is likely your/our starting 2 guard next year. Just not sure he is dynamic enough to fill that role in the SEC on a good team.As for two-point FG percentage, I don’t want guys shooting midrange shots, but guards need to be able to finish layups. We sucked at that last season. Good guards finish through contact, play off two feet, and aren’t out of control or indecisive when they drive.
My personal opinion...he is somewhere between Joe Bamisile/Le'Tre Darthard.
His frame gives me Bamisile vibes, but he has better handles. He takes care of the ball better and drives consistently. Not as explosive as Joe B, but more put together. He hit some deeper 3s though @ Dayton, which is a nice idea.
Similar to Le'Tre's athleticism, similar to Joe Bam's build. Not as defensive as Le'Tre.
His catch and shoot 3pt% though... (72nd in eFG%, which is 99th percentile)
Lol that isn’t true. It’s a common narrative for porter haters. They is nothing to substantiate that except message board fodderWe literally sat guys healthy enough to play in the Big 12 Tourney.
Coaching blunder of the season right there.
What is true however is that he played an already injured Soares late in a blowout loss to Texas and got him further injured.Lol that isn’t true. It’s a common narrative for porter haters. They is nothing to substantiate that except message board fodder
The insinuation that Elvis can’t create offense for his teammates isn’t true.Garrison is not a "scoring option".
Elvis needs to be coming off the bench. I doubt he does/will. That said, we need to pair a VERY good starting 3 man with him. Elvis is a catch and shoot 3 point shooter. He isn't going to add much else offensively in the SEC. Would like a 3 man that create for himself/teammates, so Pedulla isn't the only one that can/does in the starting lineup.
And the original injury occurred late in the blowout in Waco. So our best player got injured and reinjured because our head coach had him on the floor in the dying minutes of blowouts. What is true however is that he played an already injured Soares late in a blowout loss to Texas and got him further injured.
Oh no, if we sign him I'm going to be picturing fat rhinestoned Elvis from the '70s playing basketball all season. The insinuation that Elvis can’t create offense for his teammates isn’t true.
Elvis APG: 3.5The insinuation that Elvis can’t create offense for his teammates isn’t true.
Well he probably wanted us to full-court press with 30 seconds left. You know, teaching moments. And the original injury occurred late in the blowout in Waco. So our best player got injured and reinjured because our head coach had him on the floor in the dying minutes of blowouts.
Wow! A great/elite three point shooter. We shouldn't be worried about his 2 point FG percentage. More than capable of creating for his teammates. And willing to come to OU to play for free. The insinuation that Elvis can’t create offense for his teammates isn’t true.
But that's just it, Elvis and Scott aren't being recruited to be backup pieces (I DON'T THINK).I think Elvis would be a good add ... he is a power 6 basketball ( now power 5) level guard as far as defense and ball handling goes .. he has a good ast to turn ratio ..
and can make the 3 .. he is not a top 3 option but he is more then serviceable ..
now if he is a lead option that is not good ..
Scott to me is a back up piece .. he can shoot and has ok size .... but he to me is more of a 8th man type player ..
Dayton also plays at a super slow pace so per game numbers are low.Elvis APG: 3.5
Would make him 2nd on OU's roster, right behind Uzan and ahead of McCollum.
Edit to add: Pedulla is 4.6 APG
