MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

Was going off of this, hadn't watched much tape other than the scouting report tbh.

Oh, hmm.

In early portions of games, and late in games, they seemed to rely on #0 and #6 as their primary (bring the ball up in pressure situations) PGs. Now that I'm watching a middle part (Cincy game), Kobe was playing the defacto PG. Dayton was "hodgy-podgy" a bit. They had like 4 dudes who handled the ball (add in Brea).

Unless something has changed post-Pedulla, I'm certain the plan was Kobe at the 2 (with some likely ballhandling responsibilities). If he's the starting PG, oh boy, we are doomed (JMO). Maybe if they somehow find a 2 who can get 15-20 ppg, it will work. Or two combos?

Not sure why people are calling Elvis a PG. He wasn't at Dayton.
he led their team in asts .. and started every game .. so at worst he is a combo guard ..

Yeah, that's why Pedulla was so important. Needed the trigger man at PG.

They're probably quietly still trying with Pedulla. But who knows, this staff obviously very stealthy.

Oklahoma

Priority: Backcourt studs

Milos Uzan, Otega Oweh, and Javian McCollum all hit the transfer portal, and Le'Tre Darthard and Rivaldo Soares are two rotation wings Porter Moser will already have to replace. Oklahoma needs a ton of firepower in the portal if it wants to be a tournament team in 2024-25. The wish list likely begins with three starting guards.
Elvis is a combo but definitely played plenty of PG at Dayton. They just had multiple guys that could do it over his years there & duties were split a lot. I wouldn’t argue it but I watched a ton of their live games for about the last 8-ish years lol.

30 sec clip of him functioning as their PG:

Whether you want to call a guy a 1 or 2 in a lot of instances doesn’t really matter anyway and it can be interchangeable based on matchups. OU played with two PGs last season. Elvis has 100% handled PG duties at Dayton. I’ve said previously that I don’t think he’s the plan to start at PG but he will play some PG minutes in Norman imo.

Kobe as primary ball handler probably leads to the poor shooting percentage since he has such a significant difference between shooting off the bounce versus catch and shoot. We really need a legit pg to pair with him.

If anything, having a second unit ball handler is huge! When javian went down, we defaulted to Darthard with Uzan out. Was hard for the offense.

Transfer/Elvis/Dayton would be fine by me as PG duties.

Yeah, that's my bad. I clearly should have watched film first as a way to jog the memory. What's funny is I actually watched several Dayton games but mostly to focus on Holmes. Barely remember Kobe. Oopsie daisy. I'll just call him a combo, though, lol, and keep him at the 2 until the whole plan starts finalizing. I hope he's somehow nudged to the bench....although I doubt it at this point.

I’d be interested in a 1 with some size to pair with him. Sort of wonder if you could sell @TSSR ’s crush on playing as a primary ball handler here and boosting draft stock. Roll with a long lineup. Really good in pick & roll & can post smaller guards:

Serious question because I haven’t seen him pay. Several on here are not real happy that Elvis committed and say at best he should be depth. Didn’t he start on a tournament team that won 25 games this year? Seems to me like he is as good as we lost or might be a little better and knows how to win. That’s what I’m hoping for anyway.
