Right.
No one is saying he has to create a social media attack plan himself but he could easily say..."We should have an effective plan to use social media to our advantage/benefit". Or something to that effect.
How do you know he hasn't? I mean, what's the OU basketball account going to post about? We've got a whopping two guys in the NBA. We've hit 20 wins twice in the last 8 years (yay!). How many incredible rivalry wins do we have in the last decade? When was the last time we went to Lawrence and took down the Jayhawks?
If you've got firsthand knowledge of Moser shutting down his staff or AD staff about social media, then hell yeah, he deserves criticism.
But you put OU Football up on this pedestal, but we're talking about a top five college football program of all time. It's easy to brag about former players in the NFL or previous Heisman winners or big rivalry wins or previous bowl wins when we have such a storied past to lean on.
To compare it to OU basketball and what they can do there, is well, unfair. It's pretty easy to brag and highlight things when you have things to brag and highlight about. And OU basketball, while we've tasted success, ain't even close to playing in the same galaxy. And that's not just on Moser. OU football is the major leagues. OU basketball plays AA ball. Always has been, probably always will be.
Did OU basketball use social media differently when Lon was in charge? Was there a major drop-off when Moser took over? Genuine question, I have no idea. I do have a hunch it was probably easier to market the program when Buddy was winning the Naismith!
Honestly, feels like a lot of this just comes down to winning (imagine that!). Win, and a lot of the rest of the stuff tends to just figure itself out.
This whole social media thing just feels like a mountain out of a molehill. Like Coach said, let the AD hire one of these smart, young Gen Z'ers and let them cook.
Edit: I will add, you have a good point about following recruits and Venables doing a much better job there.
