Given that we have only gotten one player so far, I don't think OU can lose anymore players regardless of their skills if we want to have a team next year. Losing Northweather would be awful at this point. Part of the dilemma is these potential recruits see that everyone is leaving and believe it is a bad place.
 
Arkansas has the euro big man from Kentucky in the bag + Aidoo and Garrison visiting this weekend.

No way they can take all three? BG is and was a pipe dream, but our odds improve slightly if Arkansas is out.
 
New member here. Active on 24/7. I seem to agree with most on here that we have a PM problem more than anything else. Also don’t know if this has been discussed but why aren’t we going after J Small from OSU? Do he and Garrison get along? Packaged deal?
 
Saw a college football writer tweet something yesterday that I found interesting. It said that this offseason, the most coveted position in the portal (I think D tackle) is commanding around $800k for the top guys. Given that football is far and way more lucrative than hoops, it makes me think some of the numbers we have seen thrown around for guys like Pedulla are wildly inflated.

There are more schools that can be competitive in basketball NIL and 13 players vs 85+. Basketball players make more money overall.

No, it's cause football has 85 scholarship athletes per team and basketball has 13. The NFL makes more money than the NBA, but the average NFL salary is around $1.5M and the average NBA salary is close to $10M.

Because OU can't afford Small. And I'll guess that Small is still not happy with how the coaches recruited him last time.

I haven't seen any evidence to suggest that Small and Garrison want to play together. None of their potential schools match.

Small - South Carolina, Miami, Ole Miss, Villanova, Kansas, West Virginia, Kentucky, etc.
Garrison - Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Xavier (kind of)

It wouldn’t surprise me if the numbers are modestly inflated (say 10-20%) but as others have mentioned, you’re talking about rosters that are 8x bigger in addition to football NIL budgets probably being only 3-4x bigger. Ultimately I think there are a sizable number of individual boosters (Diaz is the best example) or collectives who have deep resources & don’t care about a $ ROI.

I’d add that OU is looking at Damonic Williams from TCU and (again message board gossip, take it for what it’s worth) he’s apparently asking for the upside of that $800k target (seen 7-figures referenced, again message board conjecture).

But there also are fewer stud defensive tackles than there are scoring guards. There are dozens of the latter in the portal and very few of the former.

I was told Pedulla was 500k from Ole miss. Not the 850K reported by trilly. Ou was in the 350-400k range for pedulla.
 
This is not some perfect supply and demand situation. The "market" depends on what specific people/schools are willing to pay. If donors at Ole Miss want to dump money into the basketball program and outbid the blue bloods that's what they're going to do. What's happening in football is not relevant to that in any way. At some point there is going to be some sort of equilibrium reached, either through regulation or "market" forces, but we aren't there yet.

It’s hard to think things will get crazier than this year. I think the pendulum will swing back to sanity next year. Hopefully so, because OU’s new coach will have a serious uphill battle 🙁

Agreed. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Baylor pivot to Garrison if Arkansas gets Aidoo though.
