MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

I think the annoying part about this if it actually happens is that it would seem to be about running from competition. If it was about the coaching or the way he’s been handled to this point he would’ve entered the portal a lot earlier in the process. And if it is about having some competition for PT, I don’t get how you wouldn’t already expect the staff to be recruiting other kids at the 2/3 spots. I hope it isn’t Cooper because I think he’s got tremendous potential but I’d just be curious about the thought process.
Maybe he wanted to take his time and make a decision. Maybe he wanted to wait and see if it looked like the staff was capable of landing enough good players that he wouldn’t be likely stuck on a bad team if he returned. Maybe he saw us strike out on all the bigger names we have been linked to. Suggesting he would be running from competition seems harsh. Hundreds of kids transfer for all kinds of reasons.

Yea because it is so much cooler to bash a kid like Cooper who was never given a chance by saying he is a terrible player.
I don’t think it’s a tremendous loss if he transfers. Not with 1000+ guys with D-I experience in the portal right now.

To respond to your tired, incessant narrative that Moser sucks, I mostly agree with you.

But I choose to have an open mind about the portal/roster moves rather than being a robot that spits out the same drivel over and over.

That’s purely speculative. He’s not accomplished anything close, not even in the same ballpark, as Goodine.

Speculation is all we do here. If we lose Cooper, I'm trending toward taking the year off as a fan. This offseason has been like watching GOT of the Stark family.

I think he could be better than Goodine.
Maybe. It's fair to say, Cooper's ceiling > Goodine's. Or full potential, if he gets there.

But I really doubt the coaches have that opinion for next year alone....IMO, they're not adding a 25 year old, double digit scorer, to sit behind a kid they barely trusted last season.

If it is Cooper, he's probably seeing the writing on the wall - "I'm not going to play as much as I'd want in year 2"

OU is trying to add another guard, as we all know, and that might be what's causing Cooper to think about it....again, assuming it's Cooper. If it's not, we're all wasting thoughts/time, lol.

If OU had 3 more 'ships...

A kid like Jordan Ivy-Curry.....Combo/PG
A big like Onyenso....someone hopefully better than Atiki

Then? Hmm. I'd love another shooter but who knows what the coaches would do.

Listen, it would suck, but with what they’ve done in the portal, he wasn’t seen as a starter or even a top 6 in the rotation guy.

You have ****-talked Cooper and every other player on our roster in the past 365 days. You're going to be a huge Cooper fan as soon as he's off our roster, huh? Right on brand. You need to fire your psychologist.

Yeah that’s why I put “I think he could be”. Lol what has Goodine done at P5?

Losing Cooper = losing year 3/4....or in other words, seeing his (hopefully) full college potential manifested at OU.

Moser is entering the season on a very hot seat and you need impact players now. It's very much one-year focused at the moment.

What's everyone's best guess on Cooper's stats next year?

I don't see him beating out Goodine or Jones or Elvis for a starting spot (or if any other 2/3 is added).

....so maybe 5-7 ish ppg max?

Looking solely at just next year, even for OU (and their portal struggles), it shouldn't be hard to find someone who can provide what Cooper probably will/would or even more.

It would suck, yes, but what if he stays on the roster, produces minimally next year, OU struggles for wins, Moser gets fired, and Cooper bolts anyway? It could benefit OU and Cooper himself. He goes somewhere and gets time/developed, OU gets older and finds someone that is more ready now.

Just hypothesizing, lol, or finding the silver lining....IF it's Cooper.
This pretty much is how I feel. A couple years ago this is a really tough blow. Now it’s just whatever. Nothing against Cooper, but you aren’t going to get 4 years to develop him with a core group anyway. So might as well get someone that already has experience.

If it’s not Cooper, or if he decides to stay, then that’s great too.

Hey, I hope it’s not him at all. But it’s weird that he’d be all good until the minute they land a guy or two that could play the same positions as him.

Yeah that’s why I put “I think he could be”. Lol what has Goodine done at P5?
We can play this game all day. What has Cooper done since high school?

If you want to lose it over him portaling, that’s your prerogative. He could end up being a good player.

But from what I’ve seen and heard, not sure he really wants to get better.

I definitely see that. Also could’ve been a deal where you bring Goodine in & let him & Cooper battle it out. I don’t know, but I wouldn’t say 100% Goodine will be better than Cooper by SEC time next year. That’s all I’m saying.

Are we really rationalizing losing one of our most athletic players with a ceiling over the moon when we’ve barely moved the needle in the portal so far? If this happens it’s a disaster and there’s no sugar-coating it.
Ceiling over the moon is a bit far.

How am I losing it over him? I said Cooper could be better than Goodine, so I’d rather keep him.

No idea about his work ethic.

it would not be ideal.

But if we were bringing in a portal player with the knowns of Cooper...yall would be losing your minds lol

Yeah, maybe Cooper isn't any good and needed to be processed, but he was one one of the few glimmers of hope for next season. I hope he's not the transfer, but I'm resigned to it.
