MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

I hope it is not cooper as I want to see if porter can help someone develop. We had examples of good and bad last year.

Nah...WS and his gang have been very pro Cooper.
I don't think it is as much of liking Cooper and his potential but more so they are the opposite of anything PM does.
I'm actually defending the Ws here ( as much as it pains me. Lol)....they wanted to see more Cooper. We don't see eye to eye often....but they did want Cooper to see the floor more.

posted this to KU fans last night but JIC's most recent IG follow is Jeremy Case (KU asst and former OKPreps player)

Because he was so productive this year that it changed WS's mind?
More like Cooper was such a highly ranked recruit, that WS couldn't believe Moser didn't play him more, especially in non-conference play.

I'm surprised you don't recall his stance, especially since he beat that drum in virtually every game post and in many other threads, e.g.:

This is an interesting argument to pick. WS and I are typically on opposing sides of most arguments, but I can't say I've ever seen him trash Cooper. Quite the opposite, he has always been very pro Cooper.
Exactly. And here is why: we have so many guys on our roster who have very low ceilings. I mean, people get so excited about the remote possibility that Luke could turn into a decent role player. He was an unranked recruit who had very little interest, and his limitations are obvious. Best case, he is capable of playing 10 decent minutes without hurting us. But he will never be a difference maker.

On the other hand, Cooper has tons of talent. Coming out of high school, he wasn’t a guy who was labeled as extremely raw. But even if he was, the way to remedy that is to play him in low pressure situations, which we had plenty of early last season. His best case scenario is so much better than someone like Luke. And I’ve yet to hear a single reasonable explanation for what possible downside there could have been to playing him 15 minutes a game in those awful noncon games. I’m not saying take major minutes away from your main guys. Take a couple minutes away from each of your four or five guards and you can get Cooper experience. If he plays well, great. If not, no harm done in a 30-point game. Either way, you get him past some of the growing pains. And it’s not like this is a crazy concept. College coaches do this every year with young guys. They know there will be rough moments, but they also know it’ll help down the road. Instead, he rotted on the bench. Then, when injuries hit in February, there was almost no chance he could be expected to contribute after not playing for three months.

I hope it isn’t Cooper and this is all academic, but it bugs the crap out of me. I wouldn’t blame him a bit if he doesn’t stay. And I think he has a much better chance of being a good player this season than people think. I don’t see a top 60 recruit with crazy athleticism as a guy who you just hope will be okay for his junior or senior seasons.

Rant over.

I mean it is pretty obvious he wasn't doing what he needed to be doing to see the court

i don't have any insight other than what's been announced, but it seems players don't buy into PM's system and aren't giving him the benefit of the doubt and high-tailing it after 1 season, 2 tops. And I cant' say I blame them. Cooper, for example, should probably have been given more minutes than he was...so, do players not believe PM can produce a winning team/program in the near future? Or is it more about NIL and better opportunities for themselves elsewhere? With so many players leaving after each season and PM having the overhaul the roster after each season it's not a good look any way you see it. Sad times for Sooner MBB fans, unfortunately. Reminds me a bit of Capel days, in the sense there's not much optimism for the upcoming season, at least for myself.

Besides the fact that Northweather and Cooper play different positions (and i understand that as an example), i agree 100%. Cooper should have been managed better to keep him committed enough to try 1 more year at OU. porter is a bum and i cant wait for the Houston Christian University player that will replace Cooper (an Okie, top 70 kid)

Porter is objectively in the "D" (D+, D, or D-) range for grading his performance of last year + this offseason, and hes trending even lower imo

Whether fair or unfair (because of NIL and its newness), porter is trending even worse than Capel imo
