MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

Was always thought to be a project when he got to Durham and they were good with that, as Lively and Flip were in the same class. The one that really kept him on the bench outside of injuries was Ryan Young.

He’s had two ankle surgeries though. That can’t be an issue moving forward.

We absolutely want Godwin on the bench, I get it...

But a backup that can defend and has potential with 2 years is a take every time.

I take Kadary all day and a backup big vs a scrub and a meh big. There just aren't many bigs we are going to win battles for in the portal. Just my opinion. (could very well be wrong)

If you have a chance at the #1 portal transfer ... you take a backup big.
Maybe I'm being positive this morning. Maybe a little too much. But personally, I think Reeves would start if we get old dude from Seton Hall. Reeves is 7'1 with a long wingspan. We need that defense inside if we have the scorers on the outside. Godwin doesn't play that kind of defense.

He's probably cheapish though. I expect the guy from SH to want a good chunk of change from us to come to OU.

Yep. OU isn't a school that is going to be able to pay for a "starter" at every position. If a top 5 guy wants to come in and is a high impact guard and you have to take a "back-up" multi-year 7 footer (can't teach the size) that was at Duke, I would take that every day of the week.

A solid article on his potential back in 2022 from the Duke Chronicle:

"Reeves will most likely redshirt for the 2022-23 season, allowing him to focus on improving his game without using a year of eligibility. Though Duke fans might not see him on the court this season, there is a lot to be excited about in the future. The 6-foot-11, four-star center was ranked No. 5 in North Carolina by ESPN, and averaged 9.2 points on an efficient 63.9% shooting clip and 7.4 rebounds in 29 games during his senior year at Oak Hill Academy. Reeves is a talented defender, scores well in the post, uses his size to his advantage and shows good instincts and flashes of a high basketball IQ."

Discord, WVU saying that they are officially out in the Kadary sweepstakes. They said the Kadary camp is asking for north of $1mil.

Per a message on a board where he said it was from a coach on staff.

Unclear on the validity of it.

Trilly also says St. John's is the current frontrunner for Kadary.

Someone needs to call Clay Bennett to get this done.

Kadary leaving NYC for…Norman, OK, doesn’t seem very likely. But, for him to even visit confirms we have money to burn.

So, we will probably end up with another solid guard no matter what, because money is the name of the game, that much is clear.

So if I’m understanding this correctly. Goodine is coming off an injury and this Reeves kid is also coming off an injury.

I’m not sure I like that. Too much “if he’s healthy.” Surely we can find a backup big man who is 100% from the get go.

I do note that the NBA’s announcement about early entry states Moore is 6-6. So it is a pretty small lineup. But could also be dangerous with the guards we are and are hoping to land.
Wow. He plays a lot bigger than that

Location doesn’t matter, kids don’t matter, parents don’t matter, playing time barely matters, coach doesn’t matter, campus lifestyle doesn’t matter, arena doesn’t matter, fans don’t matter.

Any chance of going to a 4 guard lineup? I know Moore is small for a 5 (6-7) Not sure how big the SEC’s 5 men are.. Should be a lineup we may be able to use some, with Godwin’s past foul trouble’s

I feel like with the current projections of our roster, that's the direction we need to go. A bigger guard like Richmond would certainly help. 4 guard lineups can work, but you don't want everybody to be 6'3 or shorter.

I'm guessing this is form an Oklahoma perspective. Many living in the NYC area their whole life feel the opposite.

Playing hypothetical given there are still a lot of "what ifs" out there at the moment....but IF this ended up being the depth chart on paper:

Richmond/Miles/Elvis/Forsythe
Miles/Richmond/Elvis
Jones/Goodine/Cole
Moore/Northweather/Cole
Godwin/Reeves/Northweather

I would feel pretty decent about the pieces they put together.

Guys that have shown they can score in multiple ways: Richmond, Moore and Miles
Guys that can flat out shoot based on percentages: Miles, Elvis, Jones and Goodine
Guys that can rebound: Richmond (avg 7/gm), Moore, Godwin (great offensive rebounder), Reeves (Included here due to height but remains to be seen if/when he gets actual playing time)

But a big key here will be if they do add Reeves, did they get that "rim protector" that OU hasn't had in a while?

Otherwise, again, IF this is the roster, they seem to have put together a "decent at worst", group together on paper.

I at least would/will be excited to start next year compared to how I was feeling a week ago of what OU might end up with. Next week might be different again....Here's to hoping they close on Richmond this weekend and can then focus on the big.

Isaiah Cousins came from the NYC area. And Reyna Scott, who is entering her junior season on the Sooner women's team, is from Brooklyn.
Yeah, it’s not impossible.

My point was that whether we get him or not, we have money to spend. He wouldn’t have visited otherwise.
