MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

So, this is the starting lineup breakdown by AVG across the SEC as it stands now. (Miles, Goodine, Jones, Moore, Godwin - for our starters)

This is based off averaging out the Final Score on my spreadsheets for every starting lineup with multipliers included. If they had freshman, I made the 50 for all, but the multiplier knocked them down if the team was garbage (i.e. Georgia)

This doesn't account for players that make big jumps, this is based off last years stats and added portal additions, so take it with a grain of salt and more enjoyment than anything.

This also does not account for depth or bench. I don't have the time for a full roster breakdown. Just a quick (not so quick actually) and dirty look at lineups in the SEC.

I know you didn't ask (no one usually does) but this prompted a breakdown from me.
I am applying my scoring system to every SEC school's current starting lineup to see how we stack-up.

It is gonna take me a minute, but at least we can have a decent look at us vs them.

You are pretty spot on, I ran the numbers through my system score and Dell'Orso came in just above Jadon Jones and Kobe Elvis, but below McCollum/Oweh etc.

Again, this is crude, but playing at #311 Campbell hurt his totals for sure.
He was the only player at Campbell worth anything this year. Not sure why he stayed. IT made no sense.

I think we would all take a top 5 finish next year. Highly unlikely though

Knecht was also a SR on a slightly better team. So that affects the multiplier a bit. (it is far from perfect, but I am trying my best to help gauge portal transfers from lower schools)
Interesting because Campbell actually had a slightly better record too. Weird that they were 89 spots lower. So the numbers without the multiplier actually have Dell’Orso as very slightly better. But I agree, there should be a multiplier for team strength/competition.

I think you kind of just have to know what you’re looking at with these guys. I think Dell’Orso would be a huge help to OU, and OU would be a huge help to Dell’Orso. He’d get lots of ball screen opportunities, which he really thrives in, and have lots of shooters around him, which obviously helps. He’s also a very capable catch & shoot guy himself so he helps you playing off the ball as well. Defensively he would also hopefully spend more time on perimeter players than he did at Campbell which could be a good thing. Their main starting group went 6’3”,6’4”,6’5”,6’6”,6’6”. He led them in rebounding at 6.5 and their next highest anveraged 4.3. Even if he’s a bit of a liability on the defensive end I think he brings too much on the offensive end. I also think Moser is super solid coaching the defensive side of the ball and we’d be ok there.

Yeah. He's been one that I've wanted to a while.

How Knecht played I think was a shock to most people. Knew he'd be good, but not like the season he just had.

It doesn't make sense at all.
Was everyone just flat out wrong about him coming out of high school?
No, this is the new college sports with NIL and the transfer portal. It is why even Patty Gasso has not had the same batting order twice in row this year and she substitutes like crazy late in games. Even Sunday she replaced two outfielders going into the field in the 7th inning. She brings in pitchers when a change should not be made. You take a highly rated player like Cooper at OU then the only guys you bring in through the portal are guards and small forwards that are one year rentals then he gets nervous and portals. Every school is dealing with it.

G Kadary Richmond, Seton Hall

INTEL: Kadary Richmond earned first-team All-Big East honors this season after averaging 15.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 2.2 steals. He finished in the top 11 of the conference in each category. Richmond helped lead his Seton Hall team to the NIT Championship. Programs like Kentucky, Oklahoma, Villanova, and others have been reported to be in contact with the 6-foot-6 grad transfer. I was told by a source they did not expect this recruitment to stretch out much longer. The program I continue to hear the most with Richmond is St. John’s.

C Ugonna Onyenso, Kentucky

INTEL: Last week I put a pick in for Kentucky transfer Ugonna Onyenso to ultimately choose Alabama. The 6-foot-11 center, who averaged 5.9 blocks per 40, is one of the best rim protectors currently in the transfer portal. Since that pick went in, Alabama added a commitment from Rutgers transfer Cliff Omoruyi. Omoruyi, a former Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, also plays the five. Omoruyi’s commitment puts Alabama at the scholarship limit. With that said, freshman forward Jarin Stevenson has submitted his name for the NBA Draft and has received an invite to the G-League Draft Combine. As things stand, if Stevenson opts to not return to school, look for Alabama to remain a major player here. If Stevenson does return, they will not have room.

With that said, Onyenso has also been invited to the G-League Draft Combine and is set on going through the NBA Draft process. Sources tell me that Onyenso wants to show NBA teams that his offensive game is more expansive than what he was able to show at Kentucky. Along with Alabama, two other programs I continue to hear around the sophomore big man are Louisville and Oklahoma. I am told that since Omoruyi’s commitment, Onyenso’s recruitment has opened back up a little more. I have not changed my pick yet from Alabama, but will continue to watch how Stevenson does in the NBA Draft process.

What does any of that have to do with his current list of suitors?

What list of schools would make more sense?

He’s an unproven sophomore in the world of NIL. High majors are looking for proven guys to make an immediate impact. He’s (more than likely) going to have to take a step down and go with a program that can afford to take the risk.

Was he unproven coming out of high school when Uconn/Kansas/Alabama/UCLA/Creighton/Houston/Gonzaga and a whole lot more offered him a scholarship?
Were all those coaches wrong?

Why step down when he could have stayed?
