McGusty article "face of OU"

I really like Justin Hite over at Scout. He is really involved/up to date on both recruiting and just the normal day to day goings on of the team.

Hite and Przybylo do good work. And they do it with class and without ego.

Thanks for the link, CT.

Good recruiting strategy. On them early telling them what they need to work on to play high major ball. Out of 100 kids only a a few will be able to make the improvements. But you have built a relationship.

Thanks for posting, CoachTalk!

This is one in a series of outstanding articles Justin Hite has made available for free on OUScout the past year or two.

Hite and Pryzbylo do a great job over there! Anyone who hasn't been on the OUScout.com basketball board (football, too, for that matter) lately, owes it to themselves to check that site out when you get the chance.

As for Kam McGusty, I'll repeat what I have said before: OU got a steal in getting this young man's commitment early. He's going to be a really good player someday. He also demonstrated a lot of maturity for his age in this interview. I can't wait to see him in the C&C next year!

Just putting it out there that Bob P has signed on for 2 more years at the OU Scout site for people that might not have seen it

Interesting tidbit that McGusty opted not to try to package-deal with J.J. Caldwell. With the recruiting staff dedicated to "a big man and a shooter" - with Freeman as the big man - they must see one of the guards they brought on as a potential ballhandler to back up Woodard next year. Also makes me think they won't take a point this class unless he's as good a shooter as Pritchard, or Pritchard himself.

Does this mean they intend to let Christian James, Kam, and maybe Odomes duke it out to succeed Woodard unless they bag a high, high-level PG recruit in 2017? Do they have one they're confident they'll pop? Is this Trae Young's presumable role if he commits?

Good article, with a surprising amount of subtext.

That, to me, shows how good of friends mcgusty and Caldwell are. To not try and influence him to decommit and join him really shows they have each other's best interest. Now hopefully the staff can get Caldwell to turn.
