GAME 17 - OKLAHOMA (13-3) vs TEXAS (11-5) 9pm CST on SEC NETWORK

If we lose a few more games will Fears shut it down to get ready for the draft? Nightmare scenario really.
Nightmare scenario is that fears transfers to any blue blood school and going to the nba without "oklahoma" permanently listed as his school imo.

Shutting it down, albeit super lame, is still better than that. Also he hasn't created a body of work yet to justify doing that.. so not a practical concern imo

It's just so sad that there is nothing that we do consistently well. There is a guy in Houston who is writing a book about Sampson, and in recent tweets, he said a couple things about Kelvin's philosophy that seem so simple. The first is something anyone who has watched Sampson's teams knows: "we defend, we rebound, and we take care of the ball." Moser, on the other hand, sucks at all three. Rebounding and defense have sucked all year (are we still blaming the defense on post-holiday letdowns?). The turnovers started when the competition stiffened (18 TOs in each home game!!).

The other thing was about the demands Kelvin makes of his players. Talking about practice, he very simply said, "our practices never change." Which is to say, they are tough, demanding, physical, etc. It is non-negotiable. I know some of our Moser stans like to claims that Uzan is playing poorly at Houston. Truth is, he is playing well, he simply doesn't look to score. But he doesn't turn it over, sets guys up, and makes good decisions. More glaringly, if you watch them play, his defensive effort is light years better than last season. He is never going to be an emotional leader, but he is diving for loose balls and guarding far harder than he did at OU.

Moser is a complete failure in every regard. Our roster is bad (recruiting). Our player development isn't good. We have no on-court identity. We are soft and easy to play against. And to top it off, he can't even motivate his players or get them to play/compete hard.
Main thing i disagree with is that i don't think that the roster is bad (other than having no big men). What i mean is that, this team has enough to win. We just have the worst coaching in the SEC and competing, if not the worst, for the worst coach in the power conferences of basketball

Yeah I agree, Fears and Moore are stars. You should be able to build a team around these two guys. But you have make sure the other guys do the little things: Block out, rebound, value the ball, defend, go after loose balls, compete hard. Moser has shown that he's not capable of demanding this of his players.

I think with a good coach, we would definitely win more games with this roster than Moser will. But regardless of how he handles the lineup, we are going to be starting three guys every game who should be backups on an SEC team. I'm not willing to just assume that JN and Jones would have been big improvements. They may have helped, and would give us more options, but Jones comes from a lower level than Elvis, so I don't think it's safe to pencil him in as a steady, SEC-level starter. JN is a wild card -- JUCO guys can go either way, and whether his athleticism would translate to D-1 (and whether Moser would let him play freely) are open questions. Big picture, he assembled a roster that was always going to have an uphill battle athletically every night, and he certainly isn't equipped to coach them to more wins that their talent level.

My deal is just, let's not let loser moser off the hook by saying the team has no talent (even tho that would also be his fault anyway).

His terrible coaching <<< his recruiting (except it is prolly = to his terrible big man recruiting)

Oh I agree 100 percent. And last season is the one that really was a debacle. Again, he had Moore, two guys who now start on top 10 teams, and a very athletic and effective Soares. Led them to a 2-11 record against the field, and never even attempted to use their athletic ability on defense in conference games.

There was a play at the end of UK's game Tuesday where Oweh was fouled and after the whistle, he casually went behind his back and lobbed the ball off the backboard to himself and dunked it. Loser did such a crap job with his development that by the end of the season, Oweh was coming off the bench and almost unplayable at times.

I am not going to pretend that this season is looking bright, but it certainly isn’t dead. On the off chance OU does turn it around, Wichita Sooner is gonna crawl back into whatever hole he came out of. Please invest in that self help book that AJ Brown was reading this week.

Funny that a guy who has posted 5 times and never contributed anything of substance would suggest that I am the person living in a hole.

I have a job and a family. I apologize I do not have time to always post and usually just read the board before bed.I legitimately feel sorry for you. I hope you find some happiness because apparently you have nothing better to do than ruin the board which I have read since 2010.

McCollum hits a 25-footer at the horn to beat the Aggies. We overcome a 13-point deficit to beat Cincinnati at home.
Two big wins that we snatched from the jaws of defeat. Otherwise we're looking at 12-straight losses to conference competition. Capel-esque.

Thanks for your support.

if i was the coach ..

it would be

Fears
Kobe
Taylor
Moore
Wague

to start ..

duke about 30 min a game off the bench .. sam as needed

and there would be large stretches where I would go small with Taylor and Moore at the 4/5

It’s so obvious this is our best line up.

If you look at the 2 most successful bball coaches at OU in my lifetime they were totally opposites. But they both demanded the players execute what they wanted and in the way they wanted it. And if you couldn’t do that, you couldn’t play.

We all knew what those philosophies were. Now, no one really knows and that apparently includes the players and the coaches. That is how I see our lack of player development working. If you don’t know what is demanded you might improve your overall game while at OU but you never learn how to play a winning game.

I recently heard someone say something like this (paraphrasing) that I agree with: in order to think you take the risk of offending some people.

Pack the house Saturday.
Or don't. They seem to not play well in front of larger home crowds under Moser. Maybe if they think it's a neutral site they might be more successful. What's OU's non-conference tournament neutral site record over the past couple years? Pretty good?
