Mike Anderson or Lon Kruger?

So for as bad as this search was supposedly going according to many here, we've now made the best hire of any school so far?

First off both are very similar in that they are both very good men and run very clean programs.

They run different types of systems, but the deciding factor between the two is that Kruger is definitely considered the better X and O's coach.

What sort of offense/defense does Kruger run?

Yes.

I had hope until it looked like Kruger had turned us down. That's when we started hearing Sendek, Weber and Robinson. None of those hold a candle to Lon.

So far one could say that both Arkansas and Oklahoma got who they wanted.

Sure Buzz Williams name was out front at first, but I think everyone knew his buy-out was just going to be a killing point. After that, it seemed Oklahoma had Lon Kruger targeted and who is to say he wasn't the top choice from the beginning? He fits exactly the type of coach OU needed at this present time.

Missouri had their chance and they blew it when Matt Painter turned them down. Now they are are scrambling and will be lucky to get someone like Alford, Jacobson, etc. Who knows they might get stupid and go hard after Shaka Smart? Georgia Tech seemed like they had to go down the list a fair amount and North Carolina State is down the list now also (wouldn't surprise me Marshall or Smart end up there). Tennessee did well, but it wasn't a hire on the level of either Anderson or Kruger.

As a whole, Oklahoma got the BEST coach period. Anderson is good, but he isn't Kruger.

Interesting input from a KU fan.

Thanks!

Alford and Jacobson would be lucky to even get a call from Missouri.

Kruger's obviously done more with his career than Anderson has to this point, but I'd expect Anderson to be more successful going forward.

Oh I think Anderson is at the spot where he can best succeed for a long period of time. The Arkansas job is perfect for him.

As for Kruger, he will be in a situation that he can win a lot of ball games. You guys have been close many of times, but he is the caliber of coach that can win it all. Once he gets you guys turned around, it will be his last chance probably to go for Gold.

Kruger nearly did it at Florida... so he does have a track record of being at the brink.

Btw, nice pic Sawyer! lol That kid is known to give his heart and soul to KU basketball... caught him at his lowest moment. lol

Who is Missouri's #1 target now?

Maybe initially if he can hold onto the class that Pel had signed but after LK gets his type of guys in we will continue to own the hogs.

No clue.

MU needs to get a guy who will recruit well right away. If we don't get a great recruiter and/or exciting hire, we're screwed with three scholarships still unfilled for 2011 and six more for 2012 (plus any potential attrition). If the new coach can't hit the ground running as a recruiter, he's done before he even gets started.

Personally, my list includes Shaka, Floyd, and a couple others. Supposedly Alden's top target right now is still coaching (or was as of a day or two ago), which means he wants Smart, Stevens (doubtful), Marshall (please god no) or Grant (also doubtful). If I had to bet, I'd put my money on Shaka right now.

Growing pains would be inevitable, but I think he may be the best long-term hire Mizzou could get right now (at least potentially).

Anderson will sign Archie Goodwin in 2012 (he had both Arkansas and Mizzou in his top few, and he spoke highly of the Arkansas tradition, guys like Williamson and Johnson, and also of Anderson... virtual lock right now IMO). He'll also have a good shot at Stokes out of Memphis (rumored to be Mizzou's to lose after Pearl was fired and before Anderson left). IMO he'll be able to do things in recruiting at Arkansas that he couldn't at Mizzou (with booster help).

Interested to see your reasoning... How come you feel this way?

I think it can go either way... Its certainly debatable.
