Mock Draft ... Trae doin' a Sherman Hemsley

I expect Trae as a lottery pick, but hard to see him going ahead of Porter and Bamba.

I'd love to see Trae end up with the Knicks.

PG: Trae Young
SG: Tim Hardaway Jr
SF: Michael Beasley
PF: Kristaps Porzingis
C: Enes Kanter

Hell of an offensive team with Trae Young. Hardaway averages 18, Porzingis is a star, Kanter is a double/double machine, Beasley can fill it up sometimes... and Trae of course would make everyone better and score a bunch.

I would love that. I've never had any reason to cheer for the Knicks, though they've been my local team now for 35 years.

The article says Trae Young "lacks explosion." What are they talking about? Do they mean he doesn't explode for massive dunks? Because he looks pretty explosive to me when he's blowing by 3-4 guys and making an acrobatic shot at the rim.

Trae is athletic the way Reggie miller was athletic. He’s fast (though not elite) and in constant motion. Part of the reason he’s so effective at getting to the rim is that people have to guard him 35 feet from the basket. That gives him way more room to operate. His biggest asset in getting to the rim isn’t explosion, it’s the space created by his elite shooting, and that has more to do with his skill level than his athleticism.

I keep reading reports that he's not fast too, but he goes end to end often for someone who supposedly lacks speed.

I think the emphasis on measureables -- in all sports -- too often causes teams to miss the forest for the trees.

He’s not de'aaron fox, Westbrook, or young Derrick Rose fast. Those guys are freaks. But he’s above average fast for an nba point guard. He’s also not super quick. But his release on his shot is waaaaay above average in terms of speed. And he does a great job of always playing downhill.

He definitely makes the most of what he has. Dealing with those uber athletes is going to be tough. I’m curious how he’ll adjust.

That lineup would allow opposing guards to score 100 ppg alone.

Trae is very quick (hands and feet). He is not an explosive jumper, but gets up enough.
I hope he comes back next year just to get stronger. He would be a defensive liability in the league with his current frame.
