More News From Hypocrite U!

Likely Mulkey's mindset was to the effect that it was only necessary to make a pronouncement of that type to "probable" targets.

Thus, if Griner was the only KNOWN, out-in-the-open lesbian on the team (maybe, maybe not), but had not publicly come out, then it wouldn't be necessary to make a blanket anouncement to the whole team.

*sigh* Is football offseason over yet so I can start making fun of Baylor again? :(

In the most neutral, unmockery way possible, I think that in our 20/20 hindsight we can safely say that Kim Mulkey's decision to withhold personal information regarding players did not necessarily result in more winning for the team, nor did it result in less mockery from opposing fans.

I think that Baylor still would have won a single national championship had Brittney been allowed to speak publicly about her sexuality.

I do not think Baylor has ever had a more polarizing player than Brittney Griner on its womens basketball team, at least to opposing fans.

I also am not surprised in the least that any coach, let alone a coach that I do not think very highly of, would order players to put what she feels to be team interests above what she feels is personal interests.

In accordance with offseason truce, I will not say what my opinion on this Britney Griner/Baylor/Mulkey/etc article is. Here's a tidbit:

Ray Griner is more blunt. He says his daughter hasn't heard from Mulkey since Baylor's shocking loss to Louisville in this year's NCAA tournament. "It's about dollar signs," Ray says. "There's nothing in it for Kim anymore, so she's done with Brittney."

Did Baylor's policy and Kim's instructions 'politicize' Griner? (I'm not even sure if 'politicize' is a real word.)

Great article. The parts about feeling "freakish" and finding out there are others out there like her is a journey that many gay and lesbian young people go through.

KM could go to Moore and personally rebuild every house destroyed by the tornado and I still wouldn't like her BUT you can't put the "blame" solely on her. Griner admitted that she never asked if she could publicly come out so can't say for certain what KM would or wouldn't have said. She never tried to talk about it openly so to say she "couldn't" is hypocrisy on her part as well.
