Edwards will see time at the point but right now she is not close to Morgan. I agree with Hawk, that job is not up for grabs at all. Edwards is quicker than Morgan and is a better passer but in all other ways that I can think of, she trails Morgan. Morgan's biggest asset is her court smarts and that is critical for a point guard.

Point guard is all about control and decisions. Morgan is, as Sherri says, like having Sherri on the court.

I like having a quality reserve like Edwards. What a luxury to have two points who can play!! But, Edwards has a fight on her hands next year, too.

Edwards has been a surprise for me.. She's a good player but I think she will be a career back up because she doesn't seem to look to score that much.

I know that I'm going to be overruled by the majority on this and knew that going in when I dared suggest that a solid contributor, a senior, a starter, etc. etc. would be replaced by a freshman.

I think we can all agree that Sherri is not afraid to start freshmen, although she usually reserves the honor till midseason after a lot of pre-conference time proving you're worthy (with notable exceptions like rebounding queen CP3).

Can we table this discussion till further games played? I do not dispute that a healthy Morgan remains starter this early in the season.

Edwards will be a good one. A great replacement when Morgan is gone

I don't know if Edwards is a scorer or not yet. I really like what we saw in the first game. But, I was looking at her command of the team, the floor vision, the passing, the defense, the ability to complete an assist. Did she ever shoot anything other than a layup? She is much, much, much better than I had anticipated, based on that game. What really impressed me most was that I had watched DRob and Harden, both of whom were good athletes, come in and throw their passes into the fifth row. They tried a lot of fancy-looking passes. Edwards simply made the pass, and completed it. I didn't see a bunch of passes thrown into the stands.

But, she also has some stuff to learn. It would not surprise me to see Edwards and Hook on the floor together a fair amount. Hook is good spot shooter if you can get her the ball.

T'Ona's problems: Morgan and Gabrielle are good.

When Morgan calmly sank (swished) her two free throws last night with her injured hand, that set it for me. She played solid in all phases last night. Drove to the bucket with no fear, and played as she has since earning the starting role. T'ona is really good, and am excited that she will earn serious minutes on the floor. She brings a little different look to the position. Doesn't play like a rookie freshman, and makes good decisions with the ball. Hope she can develop a mid range jumper, but with the scorers we will have on the floor, she might not need to right away. Going to be fun watching the vets and the rookies this year. Morgan is our leader, but T'ona is a good second in a pinch. I have to agree with every one, next years competition for the point is going to be exciting. That's next year, lets live in the present for the moment.

You see what I see!

Edwards is a good FRESHMAN point guard. Now after that, she will progress, have playing time as per the whims of one head coach who sometimes shows favorite status to some players, ie. Carter.

I don't think that head coach sees Edwards and Carter as competing for the same position. That's pretty clear from her remarks.

I'm confused. How has Coach Coale showed favorite status to Carter?

We have an interesting situation:

Seniors:
Aaryn Ellenberg
Morgan Hook

Reserves:
T'Ona Edwards
Gioya Carter
Derica Wyatt

2014
LaNeisa Williams
Gileysa Penzo
Gabrielle Ortiz

2016
Chelsea Dungee

And Maddie and Peyton. This bodes for some battles at practice for playing time.

I'm really excited about Edwards and the freshmen is general. The fact we're comparing her to a senior, with years of starting and mentioned as "Coach Coale on the Court".... tells me T'ona will have a memorable career in Crimson. TT is a joy to watch.

I too am impressed with the play of Edwards. She seemed to be an afterthought in recruiting. She plays good defense, has very good court vision and is extremely quick. Biggest surprise of the year.

I feel that Carter earns every minute she gets on the court. She goes full blast all the time and appears to have a very good basketball IQ. She is something like Buddy Hield in that she is the one that makes plays that stand out. Her defense and passing is also very good. I doubt that she will have a great outside shooting year this year but eventually should be a good shooter as well as a good scorer. If Sherri is ever going to show favoritism to anyone it will likely be a senior.
