Most memorable game you've been to?

I will admit a lot of those OU vs Mizzou, KU, and even OSU at times, games were a lot of fun back in the early 90's. For some reason, I remember a lot of the ones against Mizzou.

Norm Stewart was easy to hate. We used to rattle keys at him which signified to "go start the bus".

His teams played dirty and wore the all black so it was easy to associate them with the bad guys.

When they had Stipanovich, who had shot himself, the students came to the games with cap guns. :ez-laugh: I was just a kid at the time that happened (11-12) but I remember it well.

Some of the stuff the students used to do would never fly now in this PC world we live in.

I checked. Alvan still holds the OU record for rebounds in a single game at 28, a record that he set in his first game.

I was there. Alvan had a lot of hype before that first game. Of course, it was in the old Fieldhouse. I went to a lot of games….. and even ones before he played.

Here's some good trivia for you guys. In 1973 and 1974 Lon Kruger was Big 8 POY and Alvan Adams was on the 1st all-conference team, too. In 1975, Kruger had graduated and Adams was POY as a junior. He left OU after his junior year along with his coach, John McLeod, and they both went to the Phoenix Suns. Adams was the the 4th pick overall and was rookie of the year in the NBA.

I liked this excerpt from an article published in 1998 about Adams that told about him going back to OU after his NBA career was over to get his degree. It made me respect him even more.

" ….(Adams) recently took care of some unfinished business. Adams had been several courses shy of a degree in letters (a major that encompasses history, philosophy, literature and languages) when he left college. He knew that his mother, Ilse, a college German professor who died when Alvan was a senior in high school, would have liked to have seen him graduate. He began taking courses in the summer of 1993, and last May he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Oklahoma. "I told my kids, You always have time for something you really want," says Adams. "I decided I really wanted to finish."

McCleod left the year before Adams did.

Every time Stipanovich touched the ball the cap guns went off. Today Homeland Security would have been called in.

Also loved the way the pep band would play "Happy Trails" when the game was wrapped up. One game they broke out with "Happy Trails" and the other team made a big come back. We won the game but Roy Rogers never ventured into the LNC again. They would also played "Old McDonald" when the Aggies came to town. Sadly no more. :(
