Muoneke Sucks!

You broke my heart that day Kelvin
I Was There!

The casual fans, the ones who show up for O-State, Texas and Kansas, were really turned off by that comment. Even with all of his success, I'm not sure Kelvin ever won those people back.

The fact that he flirted with several jobs early in his tenure in Norman didn't help either.

I was at that game...Kelvin really lost a lot of fans that day, IMO.

I was there, too. Front row student section, I believe. I think it's sad that people held that against Kelvin. He was trying to be a good sport and show respect. I think it was an error on his part, but I don't think that should have been something people pointed to as a horrible thing Kelvin did.

I cant remember. Did he tell the fans to stop chanting that? I may have been at the game, I just cant remember.

I have my own Muoneke Sucks story that I'm very proud of. He stole the ball at a game at the LNC and had a wide open dunk. The crowd was fairly quiet and I was on the 4th row and yelled Muoneke Sucks as loud as a could. He slipped and missed a wide open dunk/layup. The crowd loved it and to this day I take full credit. :)

Sorry. Just had to share. It's my one shining moment, however lame it may be.

What set Kelvin off was when people cheered when a referee was hurt. But don't let that come between people and their overwhelming desire to act like immature idiots.

It's unbelieveable that after last year anyone could hold a grudge against Kelvin for wanting our fans to act like something other than Aggies or Longhorns.

Very good and very true.

Kelvin could have saved himself some grief if he had only taken a page from the Billy Tubbs book. He should have told the crowd: "Please don't yell 'Muoneke Sucks' no matter how badly Muoneke sucks."

I've never cared for the ****** Sucks cheer, no matter who is saying it. If that means I'm on my high horse, so be it. It sounds classless when Texas does it and it sounds classless when we do it.

I quite agree, MsProud. When I was growing up (as a high school student and even in college), my parents, principal, etc. would have whipped my butt if I had used that term. I had a friend who was a DJ at a small town radio station, and he was fired for saying "Nebraska Shucks" over the air. I'll not tell what year that was.

Oh, and I was only kidding with my previous post.

I would agree that humor might have worked better in that situation, but I never blamed him for being irritated at the fans who cheered because the official was hurt..

Just so we are really clear, I was not one of the OU fans who held anything against him for his tirade on the PA mic that day. I thought it was the classy thing to do, but at the same time it's not up to the coach to tell the crowd how to cheer.

I like Kelvin a lot, always have and always will, but he was always trying to placate a certain group of people. Had that incident occured with Texas Tech and Bobby Knight, I'm not sure he would have ever addressed what the crowd was saying toward the other team.

As bad as big 12 and big 8 officiating has been over the years, I laughed my arse off when the ref took a fall.

I don't remember that being the case.

the ones that were turned off were the ones who already didn't like Kelvin because he wasn't Billy Tubbs. They were the ones who were looking for a tangible reason to not like Kelvin, and on that day they got what they wanted.

Kelvin didn't take the mike until the ref was injured and people cheered. The fans were mad at the refs because Muoneke was getting away with murder so they cheered when the ref went down. If I had been a coach in that situation, I would have worried about officials bearing a grudge if I hadn't done something.

Officals only get upset if you make fun of their shiny bald head and ask if they use wax on the dome.
