NBA Draft Combine Results

Things I noticed:

Kemba Walker helped himself out with a 40 inch vertical.

The Thunder need to try and get Justin Harper with their late first pick. He performed best in all the shooting drills (at 6'9'') and tested a 33 inch vertical, and tied for first on the bench press if I am reading that correctly.

Thunder does need a big man who can add 10 to 15 points per game regularly. I like Perkins, but I think his career is on the decline because on injuries.

I hate to say it too, but I really, really like Collison's work effort and blue-collar, tough defense. I think he may break the starting line-up next year if Perk doesn't get better.

I assume that's the plan with Serge.

Exactly. They don't need to use that first round pick on a big man. A SF is preferable to give them some length on the perimeter. I assume that's why mocks often have them with Singler or Honeycutt.

I agree.

During the playoff's they had two first-round post picks sitting on the bench in suits, plus they spent an early second round pick on some dude in France or something last season. They also just traded for two post players less than five months ago to go along with Ibaka and Collison...that is six guys on the roster that are posts.

IMHO, what the Thunder really needs is a long-athletic wing that can play the two or the three on the second unit and be productive. However, this is a pretty solid roster:

C: Perkins; Nazr; Aldrich
PF: Ibaka; Collison
SF: Durant; Sefalosha
CG: Harden; Cook
CG: Westbrook; Maynor; Ivey

As I've said before, and I haven't given up on him, but it "might" make some sense to try to package Aldrich and our pick to a team that is picking in the lottery this season for their pick next season. I bet Kahn would do it, and I have no doubt that they'll be picking in the lottery again next season.

You have to consider Justin Harper a small forward in the pros. He'd be a Peja type, dead eye outside spot up with some rebounding ability. He would add defensive length to a zone if he were a back up to Durant or were in instead of Dequan Cook.

If, in the future, he adds some weight and strength he might be able to also play some four.

There may be an abundance of warm, presumably talented post bodies, but the issue remains. The team needs a reliable low post scoring presence, and I don't see one there today. Serge may get there eventually, but it won't be by next season.

I don't think it will come via the draft either... so I wouldn't go picking another post, but I would love to see Presti pull of some magic in free agency.

I was about to say... at the spot OKC will be picking, there probably isn't going to be a whole lot of options when it comes to scoring posts. The post players available late typically are one dimensional or flawed in some way. But then I checked out a recent mock draft and it does look like there could be some intriguing post guys worth a shot (someone like Jajuan Johnson). There are also a few guys who could be there in the second worth taking. Picks this late in the draft rarely end up doing much anyway. Might as well take a shot at filling a need.

Maybe they could use the useless ogre they drafted last year as trade fodder to move up some, too.

(I grew up a Sonics fan and was pissed when they moved to OKC, but I've still been following them a bit since)

kind of like the heats low post options? or the bulls (boozer is a pick and roll or pick and pop player like ibaka) .. or the mavs dirk is as close to post as they have
