NCAA/Mafia/Hardrick

Wow! That's the first I've heard of a lawsuit involving the Hardrick family. I don't know what to make of anything in this report regarding Kyle and OU. I do know he had a serious knee injury in high school. He reportedly was never the same after that.

A number of posters here, including me, were surprised that OU didn't renege on his scholarship offer. But to the University's credit, they honored the ship and gave Kyle a free ride for the three years he was in school. And, for what? Contributing all of six minutes during his career?

I wish the kid all of the best this world has to offer. But this appears to be much to do about nothing, based on my limited knowledge of the situation.

As for NCAA and the Mafia comparison? It's hard to deny that there are some similarities.

I saw a headline in the Tulsa paper that indicated his mother was unhappy he wasn't granted a release.

The article opsooner posted said the same thing. That's the part I don't understand. Gotta be more to this than we know.

A confusing article at the very least. I'm not sure how the Hardrick situation fits into the idea of paying student athletes which, I guess, is the premise of the article.

While I don't fully understand what Valerie Hardrick is mad about, it seems as though Kyle is trying to move on with his life and I wish him success with that.

To my understanding it was never an injury that kept Hardrick off the court while here. It was just skill level and then his grades is why he left the team during the spring semester last year. Unless there was an injury I am unaware of, I dont think the Hardricks have any case, under current NCAA rules of medical hardships.

On edit: that is the first time I recall hearing about an injury that occurred during his time in Norman.

injury or not...he wasn't getting any more playing time than he received. He should have transfered to a div 2 school.

It absolutely was skill level. I don't think Hardrick could play for NE State.

Wow, he got a free ride for three years, still owes the University $3,000 after his free ride, and now blames them for his situation??? Why the U would not grant a release, who knows??? I hope he still gets to play somewhere. (where class is easier)
