Tech 4 Texas 0 in Lubbock
Iowa State 4 Baylor 2 in Waco

All three series are now 1-1 going into Sunday.

Yes, with the Baylor loss to ISU and Texas loss to Tech, if OU wins tomorrow, they clinch at least a share of the Big 12 Championship.

Series finale at 12:00. No rain, not much wind (10-20), 54 degrees F. OU has not yet hit a home run in this series. KU, of course, has the two that won game one.

1B Chamberlain 430 18 55
SS Pendley, S 453 23 61
SP Parker 404 9 37
RF Miller, E 422 7 46
LF Self 385 9 37
C Ellis 315 2 22
2B Casey 268 2 19
DP Wodach 328 4 18
3B Arnold 315 2 17

CF Parsons

Kansas starting Alicia Pille, Sr. Royse City, TX who won the game on Friday. She had had several bad outings until she pitched against us. We just seemed indecisive.

Livestats runs about a minute ahead of the TV telecast

First
Lauren walks on four pitches
Shelby dribbles a grounder slowly through the right side, probably the slowest hit she has ever had. Lauren to second.
Paige singles to left, bases loaded
Erin rips a single to right, Lauren and Shelby scored,
Kady flies to right
Ellis grounds into a force at second, short to second, Paige to third
Casey grounds to second.
2-0
The key was that slow grounder by Shelby. It got through because they were covering first, leaving a rather wide hole between first and second.

Kansas
Hard ground out to third
Walk (well, at least it wasn't to start the game)
Walked on four pitches
Soft fly to center
Swinging strikeout
2-0

Could have gone much better, but it's good to get two early runs on the board.

Second
Wodach pops to second
Arnold grounds to short
Lauren walks, only one was close
Shelby doubles to right center, Lauren scores
Paige walks
Erin strikes out swinging
3-0

Paige's soft liner for a single in first, and Shelby's double are the only two hard hit balls so far.
Arnold has 113 chances at third without an error.

Kansas
Pop to shallow left
Swinging strike three
Grounder first to second
3-0

Third
Self grounds to short
Ellis flies to left
Casey singles to short
Wodach singles down the left field line, Casey to second
Arnold takes strike three
3-0

Kansas
Called strike three
Pop to short
Stein doubles over right fielders head. Miller was a bit shallow and didn't look good.
Liner to left
3-0
The umpire is giving a very wide strike zone on the outside corner, for both teams. A couple of pitches have been in the opposing batter's box, and were called strikes.

Fourth
Lauren walks, she's already scored twice on walks
Shelby fly to left
Lauren steals second
Paige flies to center
Erin grounds to third
3-0

Kansas
Fly to right (to Parsons who is now playing right, Pendley in at CF)
Bunt out pitcher to second.
Soft line drive to third
3-0 after four

Fifth: Self, Ellis, and Casey due up
Self pops to second
Ellis grounds hard to third
Casey pops softly to third
3-0

Pille quieted OU on Friday by not allowing anything to the middle of the order. Today, one single to Erin is it. I think Self is about 0-7 against Pille. Same for Casey. Erin has one hit. We are really hitting it soft right now.

Kansas
Fouls to left
Grounder off Lauren's glove, error
Pop to third
Brickey doubles to right center, runner scores from first
Pop to short
3-1

Wodach, Arnold, and Lauren due up.

The KU live stats are hard to follow, but I did notice that Chamberlain has walked in every plate appearance today. Chickenhawks!

Watching GameChanger and it said that Parsons advanced to 2nd on "defensive indifference". What is that?

Sixth: this game is much to similar to Friday's. Brickey is a problem for Paige.

Wodach grounds to short--error on Brickey
Arnold pops out bunt to third
Lauren walks, her fourth of the day.
Shelby singles to right center (CF), Wodach scores, Lauren to third. The walk to Lauren cost them by moving Wodach over.
Shelby steals second
Paige singles to left, Lauren scores, Shelby to third
Parsons steals second (running for Paige)
Erin sac fly to center (back in for herself), Shelby scores
Kady singles to center, Parsons scores
Ellis strikes out swinging
7-1
Every hit was a ground ball.

Kansas
Pendley pitching
Single off Vest's glove
Error on Vest as it goes right through Vest, runner to third
Called strike three (may be the only way Shelby can get an out)
Error on Casey, runner on third scores, 7-2, lousy defense, these are not hard hit, routine grounders.
Finally, a hard grounder to third, steps on third, throws to first for a double play
7-2

It means exactly that. They weren't very concerned with her taking second. It technically goes in the scoring as a stolen base.

Defensive indifference occurs when someone steals, and there is no throw because nobody is concerned about that runner. When a runner is on third, they may not want to throw to second because the runner on third then will have time to come home. So, they cut off the throw in front of second, making no attempt to put out the runner who is stealing because they are more concerned about the runner on third. In this case, the second baseman was barely behind the pitcher's mound when the catcher threw it, and it was to come home if the runner on third broke. Shelby was of no concern to them.

The other place that you usually see this is when you have a two or three-run lead in the last inning. You let the runner steal without a throw because you are concentrating on getting three outs, not the runner. His run would be meaningless.

Seventh
Hatfield, check swing roller to first, out first to second
Vest strikes out swinging
Nirschl ground ball single to center
Lauren soft liner to third
7-2

Walk
Walk
Single to left, bases loaded
Grounder to vest who throws to third, runner safe, runs scores, bases loaded. tying run at the plate
Paige re-enters. Chavez beat us with a two-run shot on Friday. I don't like how this game is going. Pendley back to short.
Sac fly to left, run scores
Pop fly to right
Swinging strike three
7-4

KU mounting a rally, with the help of two leadoff walks and a single by Brickey. Bases loaded, nobody out. I imagine that Patty is holding a meeting at the pitcher's circle right about now...

EDIT: Well, we made it exciting for a bit. But Parker relieved to get the W.

Those leadoff walks will kill ya a lot of the time.

I'm glad that OU is done with KU. They fought hard in 2 of the games.
