New softball thread

I totally agree on the bunt, Kady was not hitting the ball well all day. However, there was another blunder in the first inning. Lauren was thrown out stealing. They got Shelby out but the next two batters Erin and Georgia walked. Paige's single would have scored two instead of one and we would have gotten a second run on a fly out with only one out. It should have been 3-0 after the first inning.

However, while I criticize a single play - I can't complain about Patti's coaching, it is superb. We are #3 in the nation in fielding, #13 in ERA, and lead the nation in hitting, slugging, and scoring.

The ladies played a great game today and had a nice senior tribute after the game. Those seniors are 210-39 over 4 years.

Ditto, Speedy – on all points.

So will the softball team fly or take the bus and when will they leave? I am guessing they get there on Wednesday.

Not sure that I see any upsets in the seeds, except Oklahoma. But it is going to be tough and then come back to the WCWS to play Michigan. Looking forward to the first game to get an idea of how settled Paige is, well and the rest of the team.

I hope you're right about us! To me, I think Alabama is about the hottest team but hopefully they don't put two good weekends together. I think LSU could be beaten. They should have last weekend. Fla State lost their chance last night. I think it will be impossible for them to win two in a row in Knoxville. ULL may have a pretty good shot at Auburn as well IMO. I think the other 5 series will go the way of the top seed advancing.

I hope our freshman stay focused tonight and tomorrow. I think in this series, one or two gaffs could cost you the chance to go to OKC. And this will be the most pressure, by far, these freshmen have faced this year. Boomer Sooner!

The seniors we have with their experience should help settle down the rest of the team and you know they will be vocal. I just hopw that their bats will be as busy as their mouths will be. What a baptisim of fire for Paige!

Paige, by this time of the year, isn't (or should not be) a wide-eyed rookie. She has faced pressure numerous times, including in the Norman regional. I'd be surprised if pressure makes a difference in the outcome. If she has her pitches under control, she will do fine, IMO. Bama has some good hitters, but I really don't think that they are any better, maybe not as good as our hitters.
Alabama will have a bit of a psychological edge, what with the home-field advantage.

I look for a good, competitive series, one in which breaks will decide whose season continues and whose season ends...

I said that about OU because I just couldn't not say it. As for the other teams, I had predicted some upsets a couple of days ago but now I am thinking differently. Of course, I could be way wrong.

I think Michigan may be the team to beat in the WCWS. They have looked pretty strong.

I also don't think pressure will bother Paige. I'm pretty sure it was her who said she really doesn't get nervous.

When I played baseball, I never thought where we played had much of a factor in the outcome of any game. It isn't the same as basketball.

We cannot walk batters and our bats must be hot. If we do those two things we will be playing in OKC. If not, we go home.

Sometimes, it makes a difference in the umpires. I did notice last night that the strike zone was a bit wider for Michigan's pitchers, especially the high strike. Michigan was a much better team and didn't need the help. The key to the game is something that seems apparent, at least as a possibility, as I watch some of these SEC teams. Florida and Auburn can field. Others can beat themselves.

Georgia made at least four errors that were called errors last night. Michigan made three. Georgia also misplayed a bunch of other balls that should have been errors. Michigan scored about six runs on situations that they did nothing to generate except to hit ground balls that should have been easy outs. Georgia simply does not belong in the CWS, or even the regionals.

Ellis doesn't make any mistakes behind the plate but she made one on the throw to second when the runner stopped and returned to first. No harm though as we didn't give up a run.

So far the Alabama pitcher has pretty well handcuffed our girls. We need to get timed in on her. After a rough first inning, Paige seems to have gotten into a rhythm.

Paige, while pitching well, doesn't appear to have her best stuff. Hopefully, our girls have taken enough good looks at Osorio to start to "time" her pitches.
