New verbal??

No official word from SoonerSports.com yet...

As I understand it, for a transfer it is not official until she enrolls...there is no LOI period. So I don't think OU can announce anything until at a minimum she applies for OU, gets accepted and enrolls. It might even have to wait for the spring semester to start and maybe even going to a class. Also she will need to transfer her credits from Kentucky. I doubt we get official word for at least a couple of weeks.

Obviously Sherri wouldn't take her if she can't be helpful to us.

Could someone post some information and statistics (type it in - not just a link) about her size, likely position, how she was used in HS, etc.

Most of us don't know a lot about her.

Some info on Morgan:
MORGAN RICH

ALLEN COUNTY-SCOTTSVILLE, 5-11, SR., G

On the floor: Rich averaged 20 points and 7.1 rebounds in helping the Lady Patriots reach the state final for the first time before falling to Covington Holy Cross. She was named the Fourth Region Player of the Year by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches and also received the inaugural Donna Murphy Award, which honors a senior for exemplary work on and off the court. She finished her career as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,433 points, despite missing the end of her junior season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

She has good size and athleticism I think Sherri will use her in positions 1-3. It looks like she has good rebounding instincts also, so maybe she could help inside a little as well.

Appears she was in good form in 15. There is a pretty long highlight video on YouTube. She has a good game and the best hands I have seen. Very long arms and gets her hands on a ton of passes, including those from the player she is guarding.

She should be devastating on Sherri's half court 1-3-1 trap.

She has a year now to recover from the ACL. Her hands and control are somewhat like Maddie. They are everywhere. She is four inches shorter. Love the guard trying to inbound several times against her. She fits into the long-armed defenders that intrigue Sherri.

It is curious as to why she was not cleared for practice. Was there a credits problem, or a physical exam? Seems like the latter would be OK with time. Something happened for four girls to transfer, and she is not cleared to play.

If this is Morgan Rich, who transferred from Kentucky prior to her freshman year, never having played, a little background check may explain it. She was considered as explosive as a sophomore before an ACL tear of her left knee. She still set country scoring records and the school's all time scoring record, despite missing the time. On recruiting her, the Kentucky coach said that she was an explosive guard who could hit the three or hit the pull-up jumper. Good with the ball in her hand. I don't know why she wasn't permitted to practice early because of failure to meet the program's standards. What program standards?

Syb, will you help me clarify some questions? Was she a senior in HS last year, never played at Kentucky nor went to school there? And has now transferred to Ok? So she will a first semester freshman at OU for the spring semester and that will be her first semester at OU?

Well, I addressed Syb because this was his post. Anyone?

As near as I can tell, Morgan was:

1. A senior in highschool, graduating in May, 2015.
2. She was enrolled (or was she?) at Kentucky where she had signed a LOI. The evidence seems to suggest that she was at Kentucky, but was not permitted to play or practice due to not meeting some standard, the nature of which is unknown to me. Thus, she is a transfer who did enroll at Kentucky.
3. It is not clear to me exactly when she will be able to play for OU. I think she must sit out the 2015-2016 year. This would give her more time to heal fully. As it was, I think her ACL injury was in February---of 2014 or 2015?
4. Since the university can't comment until she enrolls, we don't have a way to get exact details unless the media goes to someone on the staff with questions. Most of them are in the throes of football recruiting.

Anyone know how well Rich has recovered from her knee problem. She had a brace on the knee in the highlight tape I saw and looked very quick.

If we can keep Llanusa and land Murcer all we need is a couple of bigs to go with Mulkey and we can be a possible final four team again.

When I was coaching at Star-Spencer we played against Murcer who was playing for Southeast High School. He and another good shooter went off on us at Southeast and we lost in overtime. So when they came to our place I had prepared a triangle and two defense to better control Murcer and his sidekick. Before the game Brooks Mosier, the Southeast coach told me about a game earlier in the week where they had tried a crazy triangel and two on them and supposedly it didn't work. I stuck to the triangle and two. We controlled their shooters and beat them by around 20 points. We controlled their shooters for the first half but Murcer went off on us and had a good second half. I have always wondered if old Brooks was trying to con me out of using a junk defense against him.

I am wondering if you think we might be a final four team the year before? I am not up on all the timings of the incoming players that we are expecting nor ones we are wanting but wouldn't we have Nancy, Vivi, McKenna, Gabbi, Llanusa, Rich and EJ in 2017-2018? I am not sure who else we would have besides Laniesia who seems to be in a sophmore slump but is someone I believe could become really good off the bench. Also, believe EJ has great potential. Also, I think Vivi has so much potential and contributed her freshman year coming off an acl with short recovery time. McKenna has shown potential. I really do not see Maddie applying for a hardship ruling so don't think we will have her. Guess it depends upon how well she has recovered, does she think she can make a WNBA team in 2017, is she interested in that, would she still be working on her doctorate (which I have read somewhere she is doing now, but have no idea if that is true, but heard that she entered OU with 24 college credits.) If we have a chance of going to the final four with her, might make a diff in her decision.
Okay, rambled a bit at the end. smh

2017-2018

Nancy Mulkey

Ana Llanusa
LaNesia Williams
Gileysa Penzo
McKenna Treece
Vionise Pierre-Louis

Maddie Manning--I think she may very well stay. A Doctorate (in what?) along with a knowledge of the game makes her much more valuable as a coach which pays a lot better than playing in the WNBA. She is personable and intelligent. I'd hate to recruit against her. But, she might also stay simply because we may well have a shot at the national title with Stewart and Jefferson gone. Doors open.

I think it is way too optimistic to talk about a final four. Right now, I just want to beat Baylor and Texas.

I will add, I do not think a team can make a final four unless they have at least two McDonalds AA.

Thanks, I forgot Dungee and Gily. I have hopes for Gily too. Mostly I just want it for her. She gives me the impression of being a really good person.

I have no idea. I believe I read on Rebkell that she was working on her doctorate now and came to OU with 24? college credits. Have no first-hand knowledge of the veracity.

Definitely, a coach pays better than the WNBA but women want to play here and it is only for 5 months (give or take) so you can do something else, plus if they play here and do well, then their value goes up overseas and right now they they can make good money overseas. Not all players make big money overseas but the top do. Not sure how long that is going to last, but today they do. So they do that for a few years and then do something else, because we know it does not last, but it does give you exposure, provides an opportunity for you to make contacts and can help your resume depending upon what you want to do.

If she thinks we have a chance at a national title, I could see her staying if she would be a starter and/or play considerable minutes. We know she has flashes of brilliance and know what she could do before the injuries, but are still waiting for her to be that player we thought she could be. Also, if she is playing in pain now, two more years may not help the situation. I have no clue but do believe playing at the college level does get old and that a player wants to move on with their lives. Many variables to consider and I don't know her, so am just throwing guesses out there.

Thanks for the reply. I guess there are still some things we won't know until she shows up on the roster.

Maddie is not working on her P.H. D, she is working on her Masters, Coach Chad has mentioned if she does apply for her hard ship, then she could start on a Doctorate by that time. I don't think she will, but who knows.

For certain from an educational perspective it is not ideal to get undergraduate, graduate and post graduate degree at the same school. Much preferred from a diversity perspective to do graduate and post graduate work at different schools. I had a friend and a roommate do so and both concurred it was a mistake although both were extremely successful. One became a President of a state college in Oklahoma. His dad was also a Phd and a college professor.

I suspect once she finishes her RS. year in 2016-17 she will move on without seeking a hardship 6th year. I just do not see her with professional basketball aspirations but someone who will focus on getting on with her life after college. Just my gut feel.

I will be very surprised if Maddie stays more than one more year. She may want to play overseas for a year or two but, who knows.
