Next game- Bradley

The reserves came on and did well.
79-46

14 Kay Kay and Gabbi
11 Gileysa Penzo
9 Peyton
8 Derica, T'Ona, Maddie
4 LaNesia
3 Shaya

That's spread out a little.
Rebounds: Kay Kay and Vivi with 7, Maddie with 5
Assists: Gabbi and T'Ona with 6
Blocked shots: VIvi 4, Kay Kay 2, Maddie 1
Turnovers OU 18 Bradley 19
OU shot 48% from the field, 46% from three.

Penzo shot well and Shaya's form was a lot better on that last 3 she knocked down.

Penzo was really good. I know she's supposed to be slow, but she looked super proficient today. I think she will become a major contributor.

Really great to see Gabbi playing like herself again.

There is a difference between track speed and basketball speed. DRob was fast and could use it. T'Ona and LaNesia really can't. It gets them in trouble. I was always surprised that speed wasn't a key to Nyeshia Stevenson's game.

Penzo seems to be able to outrun people to the rim. So does Peyton. Neither is supposedly fast. But, they are effective. Penzo gets there, and her hands let her do something when she is there. She's interesting. It is interesting that she scored more than any of the "kids," and she's the youngest.

Good to see Kaylon settling down and playing like she should, really nice game.
Only 5 Turnovers in the second half and excellent defense. I have said this before, but the girls really are learning to use their feet to guard and working hard to stay in front of their assignment. Nice win and now lets head to paradise and grab two more wins.

I thought the defense was the best we have had this season. Pretty good help defense.

I was suprised at Penzo's shots. Looked pretty smooth. Maybe another element added to her game. And more important maybe she can give us some reliable depth. LaNesia and Edwards are not consistent and Kellogg hasn't shown much offense. ViVi always rebounds and plays good defense but there is not always an offense contribution.

Add that to KayKay's inconsistency, Maddie's stretches with no points, Ortiz dependence on that high arching shot, Wyatt's cold spells and the North Texas thing can happen anytime. We need Carter back and bench contribution like today.

Still too many bad decisions on drives and shot selection. Passing was better. We still force it into the post when it is not there at times.

I enjoyed the game. Nice little crowd for OU, (a lot of Gabbi fans). But I was really impressed this afternoon. The past 2 games we look like a top 25 team. We just have to keep the momentum running forward.

It looked like Gabbi was attending a family reunion. :)

I was out of the loop all weekend with regards to WBB. Went to look at the Big 12 standings and saw Oklahoma listed at 2-2. I couldn't believe it. Went to look at the scores and the website still has Oklahoma losing this game.

Glad that wasn't the case.

This was a nice win. Expected but nice.

It is interesting the differing philosophy between Sherri and Kim M. Baylor is playing their starters almost the entire game. 39, 38, 33 minutes, etc.

Sherri is giving the bench players a lot of time on the court. Part of it may be to keep looking to find the players who can contribute the most later in the year, or it may just be the competition is so tight among several of them that she is giving each a chance to make that big jump and grab extended playing time - and maybe even starting - later.

I watched part of the last Baylor game. The Bears don't look that great much of the time on both ends of the court. I'm sure Kim is wanting the starters to jell and obviously she believes more time on the court together will help in that regard.

As you said, Sherri is trying to develop a strong bench. I think that contributed to our loss to N. Texas but it may pay off in the long run.

I liked the way the kids played yesterday (overall). We've got a longer bench than anyone else in the conference, and I believe it's to our advantage that Sherri's playing so many of them.

Agree with several of the comments on Penzo. I'm beginning to see her as a real contributor, and it's becoming more and more apparent why Sherri recruited her.

Our main problem seems to be (to me, at least), a lack of consistency from several good-to-very good players. If we could play well for, say, 25-30 of the 40 minutes – instead of playing well for seven minutes, then disappearing for 5-6 – I would feel much better about this team.

I think we'll be able to compete in the Big 12 with those we have playing now. However, if we could get Gioya back – and completely healthy – I think we compete for a Big 12 title. JMO.

I think Kim may be looking for scoring.

I don't know that the North Texas loss was due to our looking for depth or playing a lot of players. We had some key players who had their worst nightmares come true. Kay Kay, who is right now at fifty percent from the field for the season, was 3 of 15. Our three pointers were also three of fifteen. Kay Kay had three turnovers and a missed layup giving NT a seven point lead before we even decided to wake up. We expected to dominate inside, and it came completely unglued.

Compare that to the two following games. Maddie has come alive. But, Kay Kay has been 12 of 15, exactly the opposite. I think we let a bad start get to us. We never cleaned it up.

Elsewhere, I do think Sherri has been looking for combinations. It is interesting what happens to the ball when, for example, Maddie has it. If Maddie drives, she may go to the rim. If she kicks out, she seems to favor Peyton at the three. She also likes to drive and dish to either Kay Kay or Vivi. Gabbi and Derica are a little less likely to get the pass.

Peyton looks more to score than pass. But, she is effective at passing inside often if she drives. A drop to Kay Kay usually works. She doesn''t seem to look out to the three point line as much.

T'Ona and LaNesia seem to like to pass to each other. Maddie and Penzo seem to have a thing going. Derica is likely to get a pass at the three from about anyone. I think Sherri is working hard to get T'Ona and LaNesia involved without them making mistakes. Both tend to lose the ball among the trees too much.

I think Sherri is trying to teach. She has some talent, but it is not all clicking together. She had to get Kay Kay to concentrate. At least, she didn't have to sit her out against Arkansas this year to get the point across. North Texas did it. She needs for T'Ona and LaNesia to learn discretion. Penzo is somewhat of an unknown commodity. Was her performance against Bradley a fluke? She is known as a distributor, but not really as a shooter. Has she learned to shoot in a year off? She has good form. Lot of parts that need to fit.

+11

Sherri needs to draw a circle about 10 feet away from the basket and tell T'ona that she cannot go inside this line except to rebound unless there is no opponent closer than 10 feet from the basket. Teach her to shoot a pull up jumper and scare us all to death.

Or dish at that ten foot mark. Her ability to penetrate is really valuable to us, but she needs to have better decisions once she gets there.
