Next Year...

Doolittle's going to be a good one. They're not going to have to do much on that body....kid's got a physique.

Keep em coming, Edmond Memorial.

Thanks for the info Postman. I've wondered how all the experts were so sure he was going to redshirt. Great physique, great athlete, and nice jumper. I've heard he actually has some post moves too. My question is, is he 6-6, 6-7, or 6-8? I've seen all of those listings..

He is a definite 6'8 right now. Training staff has reason to believe he may not be done yet.

Lol...this comes from being connected to the program. I don't post without merit. Of course they "want" everyone to play. I know this...they feel he could have helped them this year with his skill set. Also, kids don't leave his high school without being ready to produce early. 6 of them playing division 1 right now...all starting.

Thank you for the info.

My only question about him is can he really be expected to contribute as a true freshman? Very few true freshman have come in and played well enough to not only start but contribute. I know you said the coaches aren't happy with the production from the 4 spot (Spangler; I paraphrased so if I'm wrong I apologize) but can we really expect someone to come in as a true freshman and rebound as well or better than Spangler and also provide more offense?

I sure do hope so, but unless he's the 2nd coming of Wayman or BG, I have to be skeptical.

(Note: I'm not skeptical about your info.)

Fair question you ask, and I know none of us know the answer! Lol! I wasn't saying coaches have been disappointed with production from any of the starting 5. However, I don't think their hopes were met from anyone outside those five. I don't think we can expect any freshmen to come in and be the rugged presence that Ryan has provided. I do believe they think they have found a guy who can eventually provide all that you speak, but next year should at least be a step up from bench production compared to this season. As we all know...being a young big in this league isn't easy. He does possess a unique skill set at his size though.

I probably mis-read your earlier post about production from the 4. Sorry about that and thanks again for the post! Keep 'em coming. :OU-logo:

1) he won't come close to 30 minutes a game for any team.
2) we saw the same predictions for ak and so on.
3) Ridley was ranked about the same as Bolden and he averaged 4 ppg as a freshman.

1) Yes he would
2) I never predicted that from AK, said Lattin would start from day 1.
3) Ridley averaged 16 minutes a game as an overweight freshman. Next year he averaged 25 mins/game and 11ppg.

I am extremely excited about Doolittle, I think he'll be better than Freeman next year and will split time with buford & Lattin at the 4.

Player- Minutes per game
Woodard- 35
James- 27
McGusty- 25
Lattin- 29
AK- 24
Buford-18
Odomes- 15
Mcnease- 14
Doolittle-8
Strong- 5

This changes drastically when Grandstaff becomes eligible.

It's going to be a lot easier for Doolittle to "contribute" right away, all he needs is to run rim-rim, rebound and play defense...sounds like that isn't too much of problem for him.

Freeman, on the other hand, is a shooter. It's great to have shooters on the floor, but they have to be able to stop someone as well. Not to mention, don't think anyone would be shocked if Freeman isn't a great rebounder, which is a problem at his height.

Advantage: Doolittle.

Find me a 5 star big man who as a freshman, ranked outside of the top 10, who averages over 30 minutes a game for any team any year?

Embiid
Big Country
Ostertag

I'm sure I could name more if I really sat down and thought about it

Dedric Lawson did this year. Maybe not 30 minutes for centers but about 25, Something similar to what Tyler Davis or Caleb Swanigan is doing this year.

grandstaff will only miss 6 or maybe 7 games ..

Doolittle led 6a in rebounding the last 2 years. Also avg over 10 a game for his career.

Career Averages including his freshmen year
17.7 ppg
10.5 rbs
3.4 ast
1.2 st

58% fg
77 FT

Embiid
Big Country
Ostertag

First of all, I can't believe you went all the way back to big country and ostertag.

2nd) Embiid did not average 30 mins a game. He didn't even start from day one.

You didn't put a time constraint on it. :oldwt356:
