Next Year's Roster

Half the NCAA means approximately 160 schools wouldn't want him. I'd probably say that's about right. And he is a miss when Porter not only brought him in, but clearly viewed him as a key cog in the program he is trying to build.
You’re definitely entitled to your opinion, but I’d agree there’s an inconsistency with bemoaning the # of portal entries as a disaster when this was a last place roster anyways.

I agree it’s more than an open question of PM getting difference maker replacements and at this point, easily willing to concede that the overall % for OU having a successful season (top half of conference, tournament appearance) next year are fairly low.

But think it’s a higher % strategy to max out the number of open roster spots is the best path forward in a critical year. Hill is a nice player (should be lauded for sticking it out) but think it is easier to bring in a defensive specialist than you’re implying, the other entries are also not deal breakers IMO.

Individually, I don't really disagree. But that is pretty much the same team that just finished where we finished. I don't really see a way for that roster to do much better next year, thus I think we need to find some new players and hope they fit better.

So would So, in your opinion, would Kalib Boone and and his brother be a step up from Hill and one of the other transfers?

To take it a step further

What if your additions were, say

The Boone bros
Traore
McCollum
Thomasson
+one more portal guy

would that be an improvement to you?

I'd definitely take Ware or Phillips too....but those are probably bigger pipe dreams

Pierre from Nova Southeastern is blowing up in the portal. we spoke to him but now the big dogs are coming after him.

Keylan Boone shot 54% from 2 and 41% from 3 this year at Pacific (on 2.2 threes per game)

Averaged just under 14 ppg and just under 5 rpg

those aren't terrible numbers.

6'8" wing......so the length part is for sure an upgrade

Kalib's rebounding numbers are pretty pedestrian and averaged a little over 10 ppg (58% from the field which is really good)

I dont know if we want them but they provide a lot of what we need.

The route to improvement would be through progression of last year's freshmen, the addition of Cooper, a quality big, and hopefully another shooter.

I'd like to see us upgrade the 4 (better athlete, better shooter), and bring in another guard that can keep Oweh/Cooper on the bench. That also assumes bringing in a guard to replace Sherfield too.

I think the only way that Oweh doesn't start is if Cooper does. I would like to bring in a guy like Denver Jones to keep one of them on the bench, but not both. Very few teams could consistently do that, and those teams are competing for the conference championship.

It’s not going to be easy for us to get a transfer guard or two that are okay coming off the bench.

As of today our basket of Easter eggs include 2 incoming Fr, Oweh, Uzan and Goodwin.
Plus Keita, Noweither(speliing) and Moser.
A starting 5 with no real backups.
With no real impact players on the horizon, maybe 5 or 6 wins next season?
0 wins in the Big 12.
Some big splashes better be coming soon. Plugging holes in the roster won't cut it. Adding bodies for the sake of numbers is a losing proposition.
Hopefully miracles happen.

This is awesome.

1 Milos Uzan
2 McCollum
3 Otega Oweh/Kaden Cooper
4 Yaya Keita/Jacolb Cole
5 Hugley/Sam Godwin/Luke Northweather

If/when we get a PF in the portal, will move Yaya back to the 5. So far we have 3 combo guards; 2 true freshman forwards; and 2 centers with experience and 2 unproven centers.

I have a better shot at being the starting 4 next year than Keita does. :D

he is just a place holder at the moment. I think Cole is also coming off injury.

He played three minutes this season (to be fair, he was injured some of the time). He's an impressive-looking guy--I hope that at some point he shows he has some talent to go with that physique.

Still looking for a starting 4. Assume McCollum will play a lot of minutes at PG.

Thank you Doctor for using full names. I have problems following when posters mix initials, nicknames, first names, don't indicate which player or recruit they are talking about;

"He will be a good backup #4"

They even leave out important information. "He will be a good backup #4" at what university? OU, UNC, UST at SA?

Your extra effort is much appreciated by me, thanks!
