Nice article on Austin Reaves and how he is fitting in on the Lakers

My favorite NBA players are Nikola Jokic, Rudy Gobert, DeAndre Ayton, Luka Doncic, Giannias, and Steph Curry... My favorite being Jokic, because he's insanely entertaining and I am a Nuggets fan.

you are wrong here ... but .either way this is my last word on this topic

Lebron is much LESS hated now then when he went to miami which kills your argument ..

You've yet to bring anything of substance to this discussion. Simply claiming to be right doesn't make you right.

you said everyone liked lebron until he won all the time .. this is simply not a true statement ..

I think this thread needs a title change. Only 3 posts about Austin Reaves.

Not quite. I'm saying most of his hatred stems from how dominant he has been for so long, and I'm saying that's typical in the modern era of sports. There are very few sports figures in the last 20 years who have been even remotely as successful as Lebron, and they're almost all hated.

Tom Brady - hated
Nick Saban - hated
Kobe - hated (lots of love as well)
Bill Belichick - hated (also a cheater, so I fully support this)
Tim Duncan - not really hated, but not many big fans either
Geno Auriemma - would be a major villain if women's basketball was bigger
Dabo Swinney - would be hated if he weren't taking down public enemy #1
Patty Gasso - probably would be hated if softball were bigger

Lakers were down 27 going into the 4th, but Reaves produced some good minutes in garbage time. His +/- is +17 right now, though obviously that's skewed.

The Lakers called on Reaves last night early in the game, and he played crucial minutes in a very close dogfight with Memphis. He ended up playing 18 minutes, with 4pts and 3 asst. He is becoming a fan favorite because he plays very hard when his number is called. LA could not keep Morant in front of them at all, and for a short period Reaves drew the assignment. I also noticed his teammates celebrating on the bench when he makes one of his hustle plays....

Carmelo, Monk, and AR won that game for them last night. Starters we’re getting outhustled and playing sloppy ball. Those three stabilized the game, kept the Lakers in it with hustle by just increasing the effort and focus.

With the exception of one breakdown, Austin played Morant pretty well. Bothered him from help defense quite a bit too.

I agree 100%. Glad to see AR getting an opportunity so early. It will be interesting to see if he sticks in the rotation once Nunn and Horton-Tucker are healthy. Melo turned back the clock last night. :)

he played well (+18) and more importantly earned some trust

A lot of it is going to depend on Bazemore's production and how quickly Horton-Tucker and Nunn get back in the lineup. I actually think Reaves can beat Nunn out for a spot. Horton-Tucker's got a little more history with the club, but they really do different things on the floor.

He played great tonight. Almost 30 minutes in an overtime game against the spurs. Hit some big buckets in a key run to help the Lakers come from 10 down to tied up, including a beautiful pump fake into a pull-up that left the defender wondering where the ball went.

He's picking his spots, playing within himself, hustling like crazy, and playing with focus.

As I type that, he's back on the floor in OT in a tie game.

The Lakers love him. So do the fans. Obviously that can change, but he is playing his role perfectly.

Was coming on to say the same. There were a lot of injuries, but he's making the most of his opportunity. Minutes will be tough to come by when everybody is healthy, but fortunately for Reaves, this roster likely won't ever be completely healthy.

I don't think he has much of a chance to beat out Ariza or Bazemore on the wings, so it's imperative he continues to hold off Ellington and Bradley, and he likely needs to cut into Monk's time as well. I think that's doable since Monk-Anthony lineups are going to be hard to justify defensively if there are other options. THT will cut into his time some as well. Nunn will probably just take Rondo's minutes.

ariza is not the same player as he once was ..

it will be fun to watch AR at the Paycom Center tonight ..

He’ll got a lot of run one way or another. Giving guys rest during back room backs, playing for inured players, filling spot duty for specific purposes. I think he can eat up some of bazemore’s minutes if he keeps shooting well. Arica won’t play until all star break probably.

Horton Tucker is probably the bigger challenge to any minutes he’ll get.

absolutely agree with this ..

either way .. think to about 6 months ago .. . .. AR is in the rotation playing 30 min for one of the title favorites .(vegas)

wow ..

Ariza will play when he's healthy. Ellington will get a look as a floor spreader. When he's on, he's our best shooter. AR will probably lose minutes to veteran guys, but he's certainly showing he can be trusted. The regulars love him, and you can tell RW and AD were looking for him on the perimeter when they got doubled....

THT offers athleticism, and the ability to create his own shot, but he doesn't scare anyone as a shooter. It will be interesting to see how Vogel mixes the lineups when everyone is healthy. Nunn will play as well.
