NIcole Kornet

I remember no discussion when Jenna or Felisha left. Was there any commentary when Kelly left? We didn't even see any comment from Sherri when Harden left.

I don't know her reasons, but burnout is something that does happen. I know a young woman who played D-1 women's basketball as a scholarship player a few years ago and after her junior year decided she was done and just simply didn't want to play any longer and finish her degree and move on with her life.

If she had burnout, I would still expect her to stay at OU and graduate. But, anything is possible.

I thought Maddie and Peyton had become close.

Nicole and Peyton are best friends. She's one of the reasons Payton came to OU. Maybe she'll stay at OU, and just give up Basketball.

I thinking I'm intermixing some statements that I have seen.

1. I remember that Peyton and Nicole were said to be best friends and a key reason that Peyton came here.

2. I thought I remembered posts that suggested that Nicole was very close to Alexander.

3. I remember something that Sherri said as having something to do with a friendship between Maddie and Peyton. But, this may be the one that is mixed up. I think she said that Maddie and Peyton understood each other on the floor.

You're right. I wonder what the rhyme or reason is for whether or not Sherri comments. I remember specifically that there was no commentary when Jenna left, and I assumed that was because she was dismissed due to her arrest and Sherri opted not to comment because of the controversial nature.

I have no idea if any of the other recent transfers were also "controversial" or not.

I did find this statement from when Vining and Hammond left: “Jenny and Rose have expressed a desire to find a level of program where they can possibly obtain more playing time,” coach Sherri Coale said in a statement. “We are thankful for their contributions this season in helping our team reach the Final Four and wish them well in their future endeavors.”

And this from Jeffcoat and Zander's departures: ""Jac and Katherine will have the opportunity to find a place where they can have more playing time," Coale said, "We wish them the best in their future endeavors."

There probably isn't anything dramatic happening and I'm just looking too far into it. I would just be curious what Sherri has to say about Kornet because I like Kornet a lot and am a bit surprised she'd opt to leave the program with just 1 year left.

I do not remember a "Kelly"? Thought I saw a brief statement when Harden left and something about Jenna. Of course, my memory could be failing me. :)

Since this has just been mentioned, I am guessing she decided when she went home over break and am guessing a statement will be forthcoming from Sherri.

An obvious transfer move.
Her playing time has disappeared.
Another guard/wing transfer is very likely. Too many
players at the same positions.

Out of all the players that have been mentioned in prior threads as likely transfers, I did not think any would. I do not believe Nicole was mentioned but
she was one that I thought "might." Not transfer to play bb but to Vandy to finish school or to a California school to finish. She has not seemed as happy to me since the latter half of spring season. AND I do not know her at all but do sometimes check players' twitter to see if any info on team and her twitter has seemed different.

Also, the only one I can think of now who might transfer is LaNesia. We will see after next year. I think the rest of these kids like it here and even if they don't get playing time, will stay, unless the coach wants them to transfer. I am not sure how that works and how Sherri works in such a situation. (well, I guess I will add - McKenna might be a possibility after next year??)

Main thing is that I wish for her as for everyone is that she is happy wherever she lands.

JMO: I think she ends up in Nashville close to her family either at Vandy or Belmont. The mom would twitter stuff about the family wishing her daughter could be there. JS

Kelly Lam.

I would think that LaNesia might be a candidate. But,

---LaNesia is going to the Caravans for women's basketball as the team representative, and

---LaNesia is the one person who was just absolutely insane about her desire to come to OU. She is a huge fan.

I don't know what her attitude might be if she has to sit, and she will have to improve. But, she is also very quick.

We also haven't talked about Wyatt. To me she reminds me of Vining. She will be a junior this year, so I don't know that she would contemplating leaving like Kornet has with only a year left.

Wyatt has a brother or something in Norman. The situation is probably a bit different. I doubt that Derica was highly-recruited, and she is probably happy. Sherri did mention on a recent caravan-related show that Derica and Gioya were making a lot of progress.

It's different when your father graduated from Vandy, your brother is at Vandy, and your mother is now at a Nashville TV station. What is the draw in Dallas?

I can't see her or Edwards leaving OU, both girls dreamed of playing for the Sooners...

Kelly Lam transfered to Marquette after her Freshman year because of a player known as Courtney Paris coming in. I believe her mother was a former player at Marquette if memory serves. From what I have heard, Derica has had an outstanding spring and summer camp and has really put in the work to improve her all around game. I really think Nicole may have seen the writing on the wall and has decided to be closer to family. Just an observation on my part.

Yeah, I did not see LaNesia transferring this year, I was talking about after this season.

Googled Kelly Lam. Saw where she was signed and then where she and another player was transferring and Coale said nice things. Not sure why I do not remember either Kelly Lam or Casey Walker who transferred after the 2004-05 year. Oh well. Thanks for response.

Players want to play.
Sometimes it is as simple as that.
Everyone of the kids OU signed was probably the best player on their HS team.
Or a high minute starter at the very least.

Environment and academics obviously play a big role too, but when you're not playing
the allure of OU as your dream school can evaporate pretty fast.
Dropping a level and playing one last season of organized basketball has a lot of appeal to someone like Kornet. Probably. She knows that she's not playing beyond this.

I agree. How many people marry their "soul mate" only to get divorced a few months/years later...a lot!

I say she goes for the environment and academics. I don't see her dropping a level to play. At this point, I think she goes where she has friends and/or family and maybe the ocean and finishes her senior year. So maybe Vandy and maybe a California school, then I think she goes for her masters..at one of these places. I believe she gets serious about her studies and what she is going to follow as a profession and lets the college bball go. Guess we will see.

Wyatt's brother left Norman, think after fall semester, 2014, if not before. Agree that probably Derica was not as highly recruited so that could be a factor in her being okay with her playing time, plus she hasn't played and then dropped in her playing time as Nicole has. Finally, she has been dating someone here for over a year, I believe.

Nicole's position on the team has changed, her playing time has changed and her home is Dallas BUT there is no HOME there since her parents moved, so could be a factor, as you say. Derica and Shaya and T'ona going nowhere unless Sherri pushes them out and, as I have mentioned, I do not know how that works nor how Sherri does it or if it is something that she has or would do.

I don't see Sherri as the type of person to push someone out. I think if the bench players are content, and not terribly upset they don't play a lot they will stay all for 4 years. This team has a lot of chemistry so I think I would take a major life change or being unhappy that would send them out the door.
