The above video contains highlights from last weekend's Jayhawk Invitational.

I'm curious as to what folks think on this board regarding Nino. There has been a lot of speculation about his off the court problems (gang related activity? academics? AAU dealings with his new team the Compton Magic?). I'm not sure what is true and what is not true. Sure seems like a lot of smoke though.

What We do know that the guy is blazingly fast with the basketball and can finish at the rim.

Do you take a chance on a guy like this? Will Kruger take a chance?

I personally think that there are enough talented local kids (including the Dallas Metro) in 2012 and 2013 that OU can afford to pass on the risks of bringing in a kid like Nino.

if the kid wants to come here and LK thinks/knows he can control him off the court, Im all for it. i just know he has had plenty of problems at school, ie grades...

If Nino stays in Oklahoma I think grades will force him to juco, maybe Redlands. If he goes to Findley prep like the rumors I hear I have no idea what his recruitment will turn into.

If you can't stay eligible at Ardmore High School.........

El Paso.

Assuming the reports about Jackson are true, I don't think that LK will take a chance on kids who have well-documented issues. Frankly, I don't want him to. We already know how some of those gambles turn out (see two years ago).

I've been to Ardmore quite a bit; what the heck kind of gangs can you have down there? And it wouldn't be too hard to sniff them out if you are law enforcement. And not to go on a rant, but I'm not sure how any of these kids stay eligible between going off every other weekend to go play AAU ball.

You are vastly underestimating how easy high school is.

IMO if you are going to take a chance on a questionable character kid, you do so on a nationally ranked Oklahoma player and not guys like Chris Early and Bobby Maze from Virginia and Maryland.

I understand your point and agree with what you said. The question is, can Coach Kruger afford to take a chance on any kid with character issues? Guys like Early, Maze, TMG, Gallon and others were instrumential in varying degrees to OU's decline as a basketball program over the past couple of years. LK may unknowingly sign a player like that in the future. But I don't believe he will do it with both eyes wide open to potential problems.

Funny story, I dropped out of high school at 17 and ended up getting a GED...I hated high school and it hated me. Now I have a doctorate level degree. Not trying to give it up to myself or anything, but I can relate to these kids that have grade issues, etc.

For some, high school isn't as easy as I know that it really is. Lack of parental guidance, wrong crowd of friends....then you add in being a great basketball player [I wasn't] and traveling around the country, it can be tougher than what you think at that age. Not making excuses for the kid, but looking back, I can relate. The right kind of structure and mentoring can get a kid past all that, I got darn lucky that is what happened for me. Hopefully that happens for Nino.

If he goes to Finley Prep then Coach K should be able to easily find out if he is a good kid or not. Doubt he takes any serious charachter issues at this time.
