I heard the TV announcer and saw a couple of websites that have us in contention for an NIT bid if we win at least 1 Big 12 Tournament game. What do you think our chances of going to the postseason are? It would certainly be a step in the right direction for our program, and be good experience.

I think what the TV guys are getting at is, that if Texas gets in, OU could be the only Big 12 team left that didn't have a losing record. And the assumption would be that the NIT would want a Big 12 team in the field.

Now, if all that is true and it works out that way. OU at 16-16 would be a reasonable choice. If Texas doesn't make the tourney and ends up in the NIT, then it is a moot point. OU probably wouldn't get in at 17-16.

I would be absolutely shocked if OU makes the NIT. I'd put the chance at less than 1%.

Same here since the field (I believe) is back to 32 teams. When it was 48 teams, OU wasn't invited in '07 when we were 16-15. I still think 18-16 gets us in the conversation. For that to happen, we'll have to get to the Conference Tournament finals and upset Kansas in Round Two along the way. Heck, if we make it that far, we may as well win one more game. :)

To make the NIT with a 16-16 record which includes 5-13 in conference play along with a very weak non-conference schedule, doesn't make any sense. We certainly wouldn't deserve to make it, that much is certain.

In that case, I'll be rooting for OU to the NIT.

You're right, though. It's much more difficult to get into the NIT today than it has been in the past. It used to be that any major conference school with a reasonably sized following was a near lock if they were over .500, but when the NCAA took over the NIT it became more merit-based than based on how many fans you'd bring to the game. MU made it in '05 with a 16-16 record (and lost to DePaul in Columbia to finish with a losing record), but we didn't make it in '07 with 18 wins.

The 3 additional teams that make the big dance now make it slightly easier to make it I suppose. If we somehow knocked off Kansas in the 2nd round of Big XII tournament we would have a winning record and at least a decent argumetn to go to the NIT.

I followed this NIT site Capel's first year at 16-15 but we played a harder non-conference and had a winning record. Even if we beat A&M we will be 16-16 this year. This gives you an idea of where we stand.

If the NIT needs good attendance to make money then OU wouldn't get a home game even if they got in.
