No respect from Joe Lunardi

Shows you how far OU has fallen in the last three to four years. Respect is something you have to earn, and to be honest we haven't done much to help ourselves lately.

One good season and a return to the NCAA tourney could change that.

Exactly at this point what have we done to earn respect? We have a long ways to go still.

I think OU will make the dance this year. I think Pledger is a top 10 shooter nationwide. I think M'Baye is a top 15 impact newcomer. We are getting no respect from the national guys. I hope that helps drive the players and coaches to work even harder...

I see your point and totally agree with the lack of respect for players like M'Baye, Pledger, and Osby for that matter. I was talking about the team as a whole. Since M'Baye is the Newcomer of the Year in conference, one would think that he should have received at least a mention.

Osby is another snub we can point to. OSU's Nash was named to the pre-season All Big 12 team and Ro didn't get a sniff. Yet, Osby was better in nearly every statistical measurement of achievement last season. I looked it up several weeks ago, but failed to post it, and I'm too lazy to do it again. Nash is good, and I'm sure his accolades had more to do with potential. But the fact remains that Osby was better than him in almost every category last year.

I like flying below the radar. Hopefully the team keeps working hard, and if they do, I think we'll surprise some folks.

Agree 100 percent! Hopefully this team is hungry and motivated.

Romero Osby - 49% FG, 39% 3PT, 72% FT, 7.3 RPG, 0.9 APG,, 1.0 BPG, 12.9 PPG
Le'Bryan Nash - 39% FG, 24% 3PT, 73% FT, 5.0 RPG, 1.5 APG, 0.4 BPG, 13.3 PPG

Yep. You earn and lose it on the court.

If we didn't at least make the NIT this year I would be MASSIVELY disappointed. After the past 2 seasons, it is nice to at least have SOME expectation for success.

You can't go below .500 and then not bring in a top 25 recruiting class and expect to get any respect.

But we have gotten respect, and in many corners. There have been a number of commentators who have mentioned us as a likely pleasant surprise, up-and-comers in the Big 12.

We arguably weren't that far from postseason play last season, we return all our key players, and we've got an influx of talent and depth. Given all that, it can be perplexing when some observers leave us out of the postseason discussion altogether -- even the NIT.

USC, Oklahoma, Pitt RT @JennyCHurst: Give me three teams you see early on as potential for most improved from last year to this year.

If we can get off to a decent start in conference play we should quickly land on the national radar.

I think we "could" get on the radar before then.

We should have a game against Gonzaga in the Old Spice Classic. If we could win that, and take 2 of 3 from Arkansas/Ohio/aTm, and take care of business in the other games, I gotta think we'd start getting some pub. That Gonzaga game could go a long ways in a) getting us some recognition, and b) giving a boost to our resume can selection time, if we're on the bubble.

I wouldnt have OU in the top 100 either, and the team won big against Washburn but it was a 10 point game with around 11 minutes left in the second half. Washburn, as expected, wore down but overall the team didnt look very good to me.

How good did you expect them to look in their first exhibition game? Do you not have confidence that the team will make significant strides in the coming weeks? Would you, given KU's showing against Washburn, also rank the Jayhawks outside the top 100?

Pretty even stats. You would expect Nash to have more assists and Osby to have more rebounds. What I notice is that Osby is much more efficient. He is getting his 12.9 ppg on fewer shots. This year I would like to see Osby do a little better on the boards without sacrificing his offense.

It's a good thing that, unlike football, media hacks from ESPN have little influence in hoops.
