Lattin is bad just so bad! He will never be a legit offensive threat. Strong played too much, no Shepard or Mcgusty much. James is a nice player, but not ready to be the GUY. If I was Woodard I would shoot every time down the floor.

Ending was disappointing. We let them catch at 2.1 and didn't foul until .5 and didn't get a shot off at end. Just seemed like a lack of effort at the end.

I'm from Wichita and WSU fans are the worst! The section I was in it was pretty bad all game. Just hate WSU and wanted this game bad.

Woodard is a flat out warrior!! Love him and forgot I was happy with Odomes today too!

Lattin is a good player

Lattin's play thus far has been disappointing at best. I'm beginning to think his BB IQ is in the negatives. His athletic ability is off the charts but it only shows up in the blocked shot stats.

Buford has been disappointing too. At least he has the excuse that he had to sit 3 games.

I think the team lacks leadership. Woodard is a fine player but he doesn't appear to be real vocal. More of a leader by example. 28 today was a good example!

There's no Baker Mayfield on this team ...or Buddy or Isaiah.

Time for someone to assert themselves!

I wish I'd saved some of the posts about Buddy & Isaiah from their freshman year. They were very similar to what we read in 2016.

It takes time to rebuild a team when you lose 3 Seniors who started together for 3 years. Put your thinking caps on, people.

I think we best get ready for more games like today..I really didn't think they would win but they did kept it close. That other coach isn't no dummy

Sorry, forgot we're all stupid and you're smart. Our bad.

I agree with this. Okay to express frustration, but let's understand where those guys were as Freshmen and Sophomores.

Didn't watch game...checked stats throughout.

HORRIBLE FG % 2's and 3's...

James and Strong shot 3/22 that's less than 15% (James 3-17 strong 0-5)

Woodard was 7/17.

Woodard ISN'T going to be the vocal leader Buddy was, in my opinion.

wsu fans remind me of ku fans. All they have is bball so WHEN they are remotely successful they go over the top. Grew up in Wichita so I know...

last 3 non-conf games
Memphis - toss up cause it's in Norman..wouldn't bet on OU
Auburn - I would think we should win this one
Florida - again, I'd prob go with Florida, but in Norman and a few games into Big 12 play so maybe some growing has happened.

8-4 MAYBE 9-3 just don't see a 3-0 out those games.
11-7 in conf would be a very good year for this team.

19-11 overall. Don't think that's good enough for ncaa, we'll see.

We ain't going 11-7 in conference.

I'm fine with Lattin's play. Looks like the same solid guy from last year with an incredible improvement from the FT line.

If you though there was another Buddy or Isaiah on this team, that's your fault.

I don't pretend to be an expert since I didn't play the game competitively beyond junior high. So, I don't want to throw the words "low basketball IQ" around like it's an absolute, but that's what it appears to me. I first noticed it in the second half of the Northern Iowa game. Just take a look at the last 2.1 seconds of yesterday. First, we need to be smart enough to foul immediately - not let 1.6 seconds go by. Then, when the WSU player screwed up and made his second foul shot, Freeman should not have inbounded the ball. Someone else should have thrown it to Freeman somewhere in between the half-court line and the three-point line. Instead, we inexplicably chose not to compete and go for the tie.

I can list several other examples, but that last 2.1 seconds really stood out to be put under the "SMH" category.

I hope I'm wrong, because if I'm right, this is an NIT team at best. Sometimes, I love being wrong and hope this team makes me eat my words.

I am not happy that we lost but I was at the game and had no problem with the WSU fans- large contingent who traveled from wichita and were vocal supporting their team, but they weren't obnoxious or abusive.
I'd like to see more of jordan at the point, strong does way too much dribbling and against any pressure takes way too long to get the ball up court. Woodard does so much better when not the point.

I like this team and it will continue to be fun to hopefully watch them improve. But wow where do I start. Even though it stinks to lose I'm glad OU is starting to play average or above average teams. Talk about "draining the swamp" on what they need to work on..

There are a few things that really bug me. Many of our guys come off like they're confident. Guys like Odomes and James. I wish Odomes would stop flexing his arms after a simple layup. Lattin does that too on some of the most seemingly simple plays. I'm not saying don't celebrate SOME plays but sheesh. It's like, act like you been there before dude. Then James, I think he really does think he's a star but he isn't as good as he thinks he is. So when it comes to crunch time all three of these guys disappear.

I really had hoped that scoring would be spread out so that OU wouldn't have to do what they did with Heild in some games we lost. OU, when things got tight against a good team, would pass it to Heild and regardless of how bad a shot it was try to let him make a play. Well, yesterday they did that with Woodard. Woodard ain't Buddy. And even though he made some low percentage threes to make the score look closer do you really think he'll make those even half the time? I love Jordan but if he's the guy we're going to feed when everyone else's nuts are shriveled up past their backend then we are in deep trouble.

As far as the lineup, I would try Woodard--James--McGusty--Doolittle--Lattin. Odomes has shown flashes of great driving and creating a little. But for a wing, his lack of outside shooting is going to really hurt us. He won't be able to drive like that against good teams that much. I see him as a good energetic sixth man off the bench. OU at times yesterday had nobody on the court who either could or wanted to score in a clutch fashion. McGusty has show great range from 3 and had some games where he drove pretty well, and created baskets. Now, I know Odomes is better defensively right now but why couldn't McGusty improve? He's only 1 inch shorter than Odomes. We need that offense in the lineup.

I think it's pretty apparent that Lattin is what he's going to be. Yes, he can continue to improve. But I don't think he's the guy you can throw it into against KU and get your bucket. I did think he had some good rebounding effort yesterday and his shotblocking of course is stellar. If Doolittle could become a little more assertive offensively and learn maybe a post move or two he has a great shooting touch from outside, 3 and midrange. For his physical size, he needs to become a much better rebounder. I'm sorry but trying to force Strong into the lineup is a mistake. He threw up some absolute bricks yesterday and has been. I mean they were off into the next area code. I think Lon needs to live with Jordan at the point, and OU needs to cultivate other scoring, along with Woodard's continued hopeful scoring.

This team just needs to keep playing. LIke I said earlier get McGusty in there more. I bet Lon wishes he could play 20 non conference games. Because that's what this team needs, is to keep playing games against other people. Get more comfortable with the uncomfortable. OU is young and they still can't do things it seems other teams take for granted. Things like passing to guys that aren't expecting it. Making horrible decisions on fast breaks. Not getting points in situations where you HAVE to have them. Making layups, and making the high percentage shots when you get them. Not taking contested, terrible shots. Which brings me to one of my biggest pet peeves with this team.. Half court offense. Sometimes we have good ball movement but sometimes I have no idea what they're trying to do. Jordan or Strong will be dribbling and all our tallest guys will be standing out around the 3 pt line like a bubble. Then, of course we jack an ill advised 3 pointer. With Buddy it worked alot. He's gone. Again, we need a facet of the offense to be guys like McGusty driving, pulling up, hitting midrange, going all the way to the bucket, and hitting 3s. Keep defenses honest. Dish to Lattin or McNease. Woodard seems to be the only guard that does this.

OK i'll shutup now. I'm just disappointed that we didn't win a game like that in OKC, and that we aren't better by now. Honestly I didn't really think we'd win but hoped. They still make too many dumb mistakes to beat good teams. I really really hope they improve quickly before too much morale goes south. Lon is a good coach, and this is a chance for him to perform a really good coaching job. Find the strengths of some of these guys and maximize them. Put all the pieces together. We'll see what happens..

Wow great analysis. Amazing how much you can draw from the stats. It's a wonder they even televise games anymore

Def agree...

Well. not sure if you're being a smarta$$ or not....but I've seen most of the games as well.

From what I've seen from Woodard he just isn't a vocal guy. Which is fine, but this team needs a vocal leader...just my 2 cents.

I've seen Strong put up shots early in the possession, not sure if he did that yesterday or not, just saw the 0'fer.

Same with James, for him to be one of our main guys and go 3 for 17 is ugly.

I really like Doolittle and McGusty....there are young but I'd throw them in and let them learn on the fly.

We ain't going 11-7 in conference.

lol..yeah...was trying to figure out w/l

Maybe sweep tcu, tt..maybe ut
but get swept by ku, bu, wv?

ksu, isu, osu are all toss-ups from what I've seen...I've watched all play at least once...which I know isn't a great sample size but with OU's youth and inconsistency should be a very competitive year.

Do you mean the posts that asked why Isaiah was ever offered a scholarship?

These second half swoons are disappointing for me too. But anyone who thought we wouldn't miss a beat after losing three high caliber senior starters is out of touch with reality.

There is no question that this team is talented. They have the potential to be good, maybe even this season. Still, it should be obvious by now that this team is not a finished product, and that it's highly likely we're going to experience more disappointmenting losses before the season is over. My advice is to embrace the progress this young team makes and enjoy the ride.
