The “Calixte kid” helped us make the tournament, and win a game once there. That aside, Russell plays in a much higher level conference. He has already heard from Gonzaga, Michigan, OU, Texas Tech, Oregon, Arkansas, Maryland, and others. Other than being similar size, there really isn’t much in common here.

Do you believe these schools are penciling him in as a starter or as a backup?

Fatts is better, puts his numbers up in a better conference & on a better team. He’s a true point guard who can really guard. He torched OU as a freshman in the ncaa tournament.

Fatts had a real nice junior year. His shooting percentage is worrisome, though.

Is the reason they are pushing for Fatts based on who is leaving? Or just a gap year?

To his benefit he shot 39% from the field and 36% from 3 point during his junior season.
 
Given what Harkless and, to a lesser extent, Gibson brought to the team, I'm inclined to give the coaching staff the benefit of the doubt on this player. I seem to recall posters who were unimpressed by Harkless, too, when we first learned of him possibly coming to Norman.
 
I have no problem with this. I am patiently waiting for news of talented post players we are bringing in.
 
So, if he thinks that he would be a starter and we are in fact trying really hard to bring in a 5'10 pg.. that makes me think Harmon is gone and or Phipps. No idea why Harmon would leave though.. hope not.
 
I think the bigger news here who is transferring out.
 
Why are they pushing so hard on Fatts Russell? OU has plenty of guards. Do we really need another one year mid-major rental?

I guess it depends whether you are confident that Harmon can play all 40 minutes of every game, or whether you just don’t think it’s important to have more than one ball handler you can trust. One of the most common complaints on the board is that the program and fans need to raise their expectations. Well, only having one experienced point guard is a sure way to lower a team’s ceiling. Lon is terrific with guards so I’m sure he could find a way to get by if that’s the case, but the team would be much better with someone who can help Harmon.
